This HAS to become better organized. One person is let in, 8-10 minutes later the next person is let in. 2 hours and 45 minutes to move up a line the length of 4 storefronts.I used to volunteer at the Foster location, where people were guided through the sections, picked things out, and everyone was able to proceed in a steady flow.God bless the volunteers, I am happy to have food when I don't know how I'm going to make rent, but has this problem been noticed as a real concern, and addressed at all?

I waited in line Tuesday January 16th 2024 for 3 hours and left empty handed because I couldn't wait any longer it was 0 degrees outside not including the windchill factor. It was so disappointing!I went back on Thursday January 18th and waited another 3 hours and this time I was successful and got food.Who has 6 hours to wait in the freezing cold? It's like a full time job! Things shouldn't be this difficult!I decided to go back there on Friday January 26th like an idiot and waited 3 more hours soaking wet in the freezing rain only to leave empty handed once again.I will NEVER go back there again! It's demoralizing! There were multiple women there with young children some of them were breastfeeding their children in the freezing rain. Its beyond messed up! DO BETTER Chicago!!

I went to the Pet Food Pantry on 1/20/24 in 11 degree, -4 windchill weather at 8:45 till 9:30. MANY if not all folks and volunteers were not properly dressed or prepared for the weather, especially the elderly or somehow compromised. Overheard many say how they cannot feel their feet or hands after waiting for so long in this BONE CHILLING COLD. It was disheartening to see the volunteers at the table sit and shiver, the volunteers standing waiting around to pass out food, shiver and stomp their feet because they couldn’t feel anything. PLEASE find another alternative location for the winter months; this lack of care can and will cause someone to fall sick or even die. People should be waiting in a warm area to be able to sit. The bare minimum effort was made today and no leadership stepping in to alleviate the situation.

I had to reduce my rating to 4 stars because, although it's nice when it works, the pet pantry isn't actually open from 9-11, but rather from 9 until they run out of food, which might happen much earlier. This information should be posted on the website to save unnecessary bus fare for clients on a fixed income as well as time and effort for the disabled.

Super stoked on the pet food pantry. It’s taken about an hour and a half the 3 times I’ve gone. It helps me A LOT, so I really appreciate it.It sucks that some people abuse it. It’s really annoying that people get greedy when there’s nearly 100 people in line. I overheard a lady today who accepted dog treats to give to her neighbor. She didn’t have a dog. If that’s the case, her neighbor should be waiting in line, not her, as it cheats the people who are waiting out of limited supplies.BE NICE TO THE VOLUNTEERS. What they’re doing is incredible. I heard two people get really nasty for not bringing proof of spay/neuter even though Friendship very clearly communicated the requirements for getting pet food. The volunteers took it all in stride and I was really impressed with how they handled things, but I still felt bad for them for having to deal with such awful, entitled people.

The staff here is really nice and helpful and didn't make me feel like a lesser person just because I needed food. I would advise arriving fairly early, though. People start lining up hours (HOURS!) ahead of time, even though the staff has asked that starting the line doesn't start in the early morning. The food selection is good. You even get milk, eggs, and cheese, the produce is "fresh", and there's frozen meat is abundant. If you're lucky, you'll even get some good household items like laundry detergent or light bulbs. Their hours are pretty extensive, and you're able to get food here twice in one month.

This place is awesome because it's a place where you get to go inside and select you food. Since I eat kosher I get to choose from the many options they have to offer. You get to visit this pantry twice a month and it really helps out when these times are really becoming hard to get something to eat ??
