Horrible experience, unorganized location, left a lock in my vehicle and wouldn’t answer the phone. Roadside had to be dispatched in order to cut it off all while I had movers waiting to move my stuff onto the truck. I lost over $400 because of this store. I will NEVER rent a UHAUL again, next time it will be Penske or Budget.

I had a bad experience here renting a truck. The person in change named Hector was very rude, he didn’t gave me the right services. No good service and experience, I requested speak with a manager ,but unfortunately he wasn’t there.

The GM Mike, at UHaul Portage is the best. A different location of UHaul dropped the ball on my wiring and hitch installation and the day of my move Mike saved the day! He was so willingly to assist me when other locations couldn't. Nothing but positive things to say about him and this UHaul! Go to this Uhaul if you are in the Chicago area!

Great refill service, after being denied to refill my tank due to the size of it, at Menard on Kostner and North Ave. This friendly staff solve my issue without any problem. Great hospitality, and service. Thank you all guys for help our community to get a great experience. Now my tank is ready to go into nature.

Great service staff ,very helpful. Had my truck and car carrier ready to roll. As soon I was done in office I was in truck and on the road. I been to other truck rental places quite a bit, this place exceeded my expectations by far . Ill never go elsewhere. Thanks keep up the great work . ?

Should have done this review a month ago but y’all know how crazy moving can be at times, I had a crazy one.My truck was ready, service was great, thx TRAEVON ROBINSON! He was very patient with a customer ahead of me who was a little involved but NOT rude just over the top a little & Traevon was patient, kind & polite with her. He even assisted me although i was early for my appt. while dealing with her.Returning was also a smooth process. Emanuel I think was his name. Wasn’t rude with a bag a garbage I brought with in truck NOT to leave was just looking for a dumpster & he offered me to throw in their garbage inside the drop off building…..thx for your little act of kindness. That went a long way with me because I had such a stressful move that afternoon!!!Way to go 4301 N. Cicero branch in Chicago

Very friendly people working there. I needed a van in a pinch to help move some furniture and they were able to get me into one in under 15 minutes. I was about 20 minutes late with my rental and they didn’t charge me a late fee.

Would you like to see how a business should NOT be run? Then patronize this poster child for incompetence and poor service. Or, if your kids never saw Bozo's Circus, take them here to experience it!Once upon a time, I made a 10am online appointment for a hitch on my car. Here's what ensued:Day 1: 10 am prepaid appointment for hitch not honored; "We'll get it done," I was told, as long as I was willing to wait another 3 hours for them to get two other vehicles done. At least they gave me an immediate refund, albeit with no apology.Day 2" Made another appointment for 10am--this time by phone. , I specified the model and year of my car. This time I was only kept waiting 15 minutes, but was then told they didn't have the correct size. Was told hitch would arrive in 5 days and I would be called by then.Day 3 No call after five days. But was told I would be called back by the the general manager. He never calledDay 4 After five additional days, I called again. "Hitch not in yet," I was told. But general manager will call me. He never called.Day 5: After 2 additional days, I called again. "Oh you have a 7am appointment on Friday I was told." Really? No one ever told me that. Hitch is expected to be in today, I was finally told.Day 6. I was called! Hitch has arrived, come tomorrow...Day 7; Arrived to experience the rude staff everyone else has talked about. The manager was only 20 minutes late, but he proceeded to do my hitch. "Done," after 2.5 hours.............but upon driving home, found my turn signals didn't work. In doing the wiring, he had blown a fuse.Day 8 I replaced the fuse. Turn signals work. Is it finally done? Let's hope.Note, too, that--despite the online option--they have no place for you to wait until the work is completed. They seem to expect that you will leave the car with them. Too difficult for you to leave the car? Then notice McDonald's is across the street. Grab a seat.

I've rented six vehicles from this location over the past couple months, and have experienced a 66% failure rate:- I rented a 15' box truck which had obviously been in a collision and never repaired as I had to turn steering wheel 30 degrees to the right in order to drive straight- I rented a cargo van which had a broken and spider webbed windshield. Most outrageous of all it had one of those pre-existing damage stickers on it.- I rented a cargo van which had the battery voltage oscillate back and forth between 14V and 12V indicating the alternator was beginning to fail which would cause me to become stranded. When I took it back I was given another vehicle which had an improperly properly repaired chipped windshield.- I rented a cargo van which had a broken turn signal bulbI've questioned the staff about this and they blame corporate saying when these vehicles are actually repaired is up to them. The staff does not care at all if they give you a vehicle which will cause you to get in to an accident, injured, stranded or pulled over by the police and ticketed. I've reached out to the legal@, store@, service@ and support@ email addresses for U-Haul, and have only ever received a response from the store manager, and never from anyone at corporate. I'm not really sure why because the manager seems to be the cause of these problems. He either isnt supervising his staff to ensure they check for problems before renting vehicles out, or is understaffed and cares so little about the wellbeing of his customers, that he is more than willing to rent out defective vehicles than can cause collisions or are not street legal just so his store can make more money, rather than scaling back operations to a level his staff can manage.Even more disturbingly is that this all seems like a massive fraud and racketeering operation, during the check out process they try to upsell you on things like a vehicle damage waiver, in which they claim you'll be charged $1215 for windshield damage or $1395 for a scrape to the paint plus loss-of-use fees. Which is bizarre as i've been given two vehicles with broken windshields and i'm quite sure every single vehicle on their lot is covered in unrepaired scrapes. And i'm not sure how they can claim loss-of-use fees considering that this damage is never repaired and thus they never suffer loss of use. If you decline this damage waiver, when you go to pick up the vehicle, the store employees begin threatening you about how you'll have to pay immediately upon return of the vehicle.If there was some other van rental service which was as conveniently close as this one, I likely would have gone there instead.Edit 05-31-22:U-Haul's Steve Berman who claims to be the Senior Program Manager for Customer Service and Customer Advocate got back to me saying that U-Haul's legal department does not care whether or not their vehicles are street legal until things get so bad that there is a lawsuit and instead told me to reach out to the store's manager who's mismanagement is the very reason why this problem exists in the first place. Talk about customer service and advocation!

I bought two items from them and I was overcharged I went back to them with the receipt and told him they overcharged me for an item then they told me there will be refund to my bank account with a certain amount of time it was never refund back to my account never saw it so be careful what you buy from them and make sure it's the right price. I went there a second time about the situation and it was still never resolved

Where do I start....they told me to come in on Tuesday the 15th to get my hitch installed. They told me "should be done in three hours max" cool, went to the local restaurant to kill time. Well they never contacted us in any manner and hours have passed so We walk back and our car hasn't been touched and then THEY inform us they had no intention of it getting done as they didn't have the proper tools that day. This is 100% towards the customer service, the front staff. The mechanic was so great and communicative. But the front desk staff was TRASH! They had us come back the next day, on HIS DAY OFF! This hub is so disrespectful to not only their employees but customers they had their mechanic come after he had to go to THE DOCTORS to try to "save face" had I just had his info I would have NEVER given uhaul my business.NOW IM ON THE PHONE WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE ABOUT THIS INCIDENT AND THEY REFUSE TO COMPENSATE MY TIME. Two full days missing of work now. No communication. Rude to their staff, rude to me and my husband. I will never use uhaul again. And that's really sad for them because I own 3 houses and have used their services 3-5x a year so they are now loosing a huge customer nation wide. All because you couldn't give me 10-15% off my trailer I'm using BECAUSE I HAD TO GET YOUR HITCH WHICH TOOK TWO DAYS!Don't BOTHER!!
