This is definitely the best retro spot in town, in my opinion. The owner is incredibly friendly and loves to share the background stories of the items in the shop. The prices are very reasonable, and the honesty about the quality of the pieces sets this place apart from online purchases or higher-end stores. I found a stunning pendant lamp here, and I always make sure to pay a visit whenever I'm nearby. Let's promote local shopping and show some love to independent stores!

Velvet Goldmine is such a gem for furniture shopping in Chicago! It is so hard to find high quality furniture these days, especially at an affordable price and Velvet Goldmine manages to achieve both! The owner John is super nice and accommodating, delivering both of the pieces we bought to us and helping move them inside. He goes above and beyond to try and get the best pieces for his customers at accessible prices. My husband and I are newly weds getting ready to move into our first home together so we have been hunting for good quality but also affordable furniture and we will keep coming back to Velvet Goldmine for our furniture needs :) thank you John!

This is one of my favorite stores in the city. John is amazing and is super deep in all things MCM! He has a great eye and he finds quality furniture and art (we have a lot of it in our home). Definitely recommend

Small store but a great selection of pieces. Mostly mid-century from what I saw. The owner is incredibly personable and it is a pleasure to visit.

Absolutely LOVE this place. I just got a live edge vintage coffe table and a jade piece, and they are STUNNING. John is just the sweetest person to talk with. He has a true passion for the thing he does. It was so worth to come here and J will definitely be returning!

John is the nicest guy and helped me bring all the heavy pieces for the teak bed and teak dresser to my truck. The prices are very reasonable. When I messaged John, he was very quick to respond. At the store when I picked up my bed and dresser, he had so many amazing MCM pieces. I literally could just sit there all day and stare at everything. We will be back to buy more stuff in the future.

My favorite vintage place in the city by far. The owner is super personable and always has a story about the pieces in the store. Supremely fair prices and much more honest about the condition of things than you'd get by buying online or at other "premium" boutiques. I've bought a gorgeous hanging lamp from here and really look forward to stopping here when I'm in the area. Shop local and support independent businesses!

Goldmine indeed. The facade of this building is pretty unassuming on Division Street, but there's an incredible experience inside. Every piece has character and style, and the people running this place actually repair and refurbish pieces before they're sold. And they deliver if you're local! I WISH I'd checked this place when I needed new furniture before checking Ikea or West Elm or any big box store. You can't beat the charm, the environmental benefits of shopping secondhand, the uniqueness of every piece, or the service and great people inside! I'd heard great things about this place from others and I only regret I didn't hurry and visit it sooner. I'm looking forward to bringing friends and family to this hidden gem when they visit the city. Attached photo is of the painting my husband and I bought the last time we were there, a 1960s Anderson abstract for an unbeatable price. Don't miss this place!

This is where you go when you want some gorgeous mid-century furniture, clocks, or glassware. Get here early on the weekends for first dibs! Also the candles in the vintage glassware are reallllllly nice! Oh and Jon is an awesome guy and you're supporting a mom & pop that cares deeply about Chicago and the neighborhood. It doesn't get better than that!
