I recently opened my savings account with GLCU, and have nothing but positive things to say! From the moment I walked in the door everyone was so prompt, polite, and made me feel like a valued client! I worked with Lisa Ramos to set up my account and she was very knowledgable and pleasant to work with throughout the whole experience. For anyone looking for a credit union, I highly recommend GLCU!

Why is it when i pull up you ask me what bank im banking with. Why do you think im here. Great Lakes credit union. Why dont you just act like every other great lakes and just send out the deposit slips. This is so frustrating I'm trying to save time by going to the drive-thru not answer question and answers just hand me the dang stuff.

I have a bank out of state. I live in Illinois. I have a hard time getting my money using them. I have a password set up. They still give me a hard time. I'm changing banks on Monday. So sick of them.

Opened their free checking over a month ago, paid $$ for checks and have yet to receive them. I went in to request 2 bank checks (since I cannot write any checks myself due to no checkbook) and they charged me $10 without the telling me. The reason I had to make a trip to the branch and ask for the checks was because my check order never came, which I explained to the teller. When I messaged ask them about the fees, they told me to pound sand. They said that these are fees they cannot reverse, with no explanation. They won't even refund me for the checks I ordered that I never received. So GLCU cost me $45, tons of frustration and 0 service.. Real nice for a credit union. If you want a credit union that offers terrific service and a 4.09%APY on free checking balances, go to Consumers Credit Union. Anyone can join and they are top-notch.Message from their specialist below:We apologize for the situation that occurred. This is part of our fee schedule. Unfortunately those are not fees we are able to refund. If you do want to proceed with closing your account, you can complete this at a branch. We can also complete this request via this message, please just reply with your address and that you wish to close the account, we will mail you a check for the account balance.Thank you,GinaE-Communications Specialist

Customer service practically non-existent, and I've been locked out of my account for no reason so many times I've lost count. I totally gave up on online banking because of this huge waste of time. (Maybe they're great if you go in person but that's not what I'm looking for)

My experience with GCLU has been nothing short of satisfactory and incredible. Amazing staff that have been extremely helpful, kind and courteous, especially in choosing the best options for accounts and credit!

Used to be good. Now Terrible. They lose payments, they do not know where the USPO mail is. They don't return calls when promised. All employees work from home. No one opens emails or USPO mail. Employees do not document emails or calls. Horrible. What happened to customer service? Employees do not even know their supervisors names.What happened to this financial institution? They need to go back to their roots.

Slow service, poor communication and training of staff, you'll never get the same story twice for any issues. Predatory fees and arrogant management. (Not just this branch)

Very rude person at door. I understand the Covid restrictions as far as mask, social distancing, etc. but why do they make you show 2 ID before you come in?? Illinois Drivers License isn’t enough? Then she proceeded to berate me for coming in instead of using drive through ( even though I explained why). Very rude service, I will be finding a new bank/credit union after this experience

UPDATE; I show up as requested to the local GCLU branch, explained what I was told and handed them my I.D. Two of the tellers began talking and looking at the screen, reading the notes. Several minutes go by & the female teller comes back and says she can give me $220 but the $5 has to remain in the account for 10 days as it's their policy. I said "nope, I spoke to Belinda who TOLD ME that If I go to this branch & hand them my I.D. then they will withdraw my $225 as they were able to close the account for me so the funds can go right back to me due to all of the confusion & issues."She proceeds to inform me that it is POLICY to keep the account open for 10 days and THEN I can come back, close the account & get my $5. I was in the drive through with 4-5 cars behind me, they didn't seem to care, even though these people were the actual account holders. and I was not leaving until they gave me the FULL $225. I explained that I had been given so many different responses from 5-6 staff members & none of them were matching up. It began to be almost as if they wanted the last word, or just wanted to prove a point as they each made up their own policy. This entire experience has disgusted me & left me exhausted. They finally gave me the remaining $5 and of course informed me that the account, I had closed & THEY reopened without my authorization, will still remain open for 10 days. Ok GLCU , Happy New Year!
