The vehicle we obtained was dirty with old Kleenex in the cup holders and floor, dental floss on the floors, Q tips on floor, cup holders sticky and dirty.
Outside looked as though all they did was spray water on it. Smelled of smoke.
Lots of marks and scratches on vehicle that did not show up on pictures.
Slow pick up and drop off.
They charged $75 extra for drivers!!!
Going back to my regular car rental place.

The car itself was great, however extremely Deceptive pricing Of added insurance. More than double the price given on the Internet at time of pick up. Absolute terrible staff. And the customer service hotline is no better. If you run into any sort of problem or have any questions, be prepared to be frustrated beyond belief

I wish I read their reviews before we booked our rental van. The first red flag was having my phone call go right to hold. So instead I booked online, got a reservation#, and drove to Hertz. We arrived to a lobby full of people waiting for help. A very concerning half-hour passed, then we finally spoke to the only employee working. He bluntly told us 'Their cargo van outside isn't available- we rent those out to Amazon.' I've never heard anything so crazy- the Amazon Distribution lot on Findley has hundreds of waiting vans! Definitely take your business elsewhere, they don't want it at Hertz DG. Their entire system is broken. Like Seinfeld says; they can TAKE the reservation, but can't KEEP the reservation...ugh. SMH

Car was clean, ready to go. Rates as shown on reservation had no mysterious or additional charges. Customer service terrible in terms of time. Seven customers waiting ahead of us at our designated pickup time and only ONE employee working. Each reservation took 10-15 minutes so do the math…. Hertz is fully aware of the number of reservations coming and going so adequate staffing is easily able to be scheduled. CS rep was kind and patient despite doing the job of two people and needing to respond to legitimately frustrated customers. Give that guy a bonus and raise, and then employ a second rep to move things along in a timely manner. This happened more than a couple times at the same location at different times of day, week days and weekends, so it's not due to a busy time or day -- it's across the board at almost any given time. If you don't mind waiting an hour or so to pick up your vehicle, this is the place to come!

**Gig Workers (& New Renters) Beware!**
I rented from here for the first time through Carla's gig workers program. My rental was at 12 PM, and the website said I could check in after that. I arrived at 12:15 PM, but the doors were locked, and no one was at the desk—despite them closing at 12 PM. I waited and called Carla, but there was no response from Hertz.
When I returned on Monday, I encountered two disrespectful men—one wearing sunglasses, the other avoiding eye contact. They claimed the door was locked, which didn't make sense given my confirmed reservation. I later learned they don’t rent to gig workers, contradicting what was listed online.
They told me last week they couldn’t refund my prepaid reservation, and now they’ve informed Carla that they won’t process the refund.
Avoid this Hertz and Carla Rental Car altogether—it's worse than using Priceline!

Good God, after being told I was to have a Lexus SUV at Plainfield but after arriving received a Jeep Compass with an engine problem, I returned to this Downers Grove location.. and they did NOT disappoint!! Was given a Ford Edge SEL AWD and it WAS the BEST rental I've EVER had.. truly.
Only wish I could have bought it at the end! This location is very professional and apt to the professional class, very nice to see.
Will certainly return in the next few months! Thomas W :)

I had a really bad experience renting a Tesla from this location. I made my reservation online (easy enough and for a fair rate). When I got there the woman started throwing a bunch of questions and asking for a bunch of add on options. She then wanted us to purchase some extra package saying regular car insurance won't cover electric cars. This was right when they opened and when I tried to call my insurance to verify they were not open. I explained to the woman at the counter and she told me when I find out I can come back and she would take the charge off. She ended up charging us an additional fee which was a hefty charge. When I got home I finally got a hold of the insurance and they said they cover ANY car. I called the woman back and told her, she said I can come back and she will take care of it. When I got there she did something really dumb she thought I was going to make another reservation. And when I tried telling her I wanted to get my money back from that unnecessary charge for extra insurance she said no and that the contract is finalized. She was very rude and dismissive. ANY place with good customer service would help the customer out especially if they came back within 2 hours. I only drove the car home and back to the rental place because I wanted to verify with my insurance. I wish I knew this person was going to pull such a shady tactic ahead of time. PLEASE be mindful of extra charges and stuff before you purchase with them.
I will say this Syed, was very nice and easy to deal with. When I returned the car at the conclusion of the contract he was the guy who handled my return. He was polite, I wish he handled my entire transaction.
Needless to say, I won't be returning and have found better experience with my local enterprise down the street. Nice people and they don't mistreat their customers.

Not great. They had the reservation for months, go to pick up minivan, can't because its getting an oil change. They try to put us in a comparable 7 seater SUV, write it up, can do that one either because it needs an oil change, so back to waiting until minivan is done with oil change. Customer service is nice, but what's the point in a reservation if there's no car?! And hours are terrible.
