Where do I start? Thought this might be a nice change of pace from the typical chain bank with their nice lobby and seemingly welcoming staff. Gave them a shot with financing my new sprinter van. After bringing in tax returns and loads of paperwork and waiting a week for an answer, they finally told me they don't finance vans! Colossal waste of time, and almost lost the van to another buyer. MB financed us at the drop of a hat with no down payment. Easy. Chalked that up to maybe an isolated experience. Gave them another shot. Applied for a business loan for a new building. Same story. Jump through hoops that are unnecessary to evaluate our creditworthiness to see if we meet their interesting terms which could be done in a matter of minutes with a knowledgeable banker and a calculator. Wasted another couple weeks moving at the rate of sludge. Went another route and closing on that in a few weeks in half the time it took for ESB to even look at our application. Thought I'd never work with this bank again after "fool me twice shame on me". After applying for a HELOC with another bank and being approved easily with ample income and 793 credit score in under a week, I noticed an ad for a much lower introductory offer on the APR with these jokers again. Ugh, well it is always nice to pay less to the banks that apparently don't need the money as much as the consumers do, so we applied again. Talked to one of the desk puppets who proudly stated "our underwriter is in house so we don't have to wait for outsourced replies or lags in answers". Seems fair. Told her we have a tight timeline to get this done as we are using the cash for another investment property. Yep, same story. Steve, their underwriter, is about as lazy as they come. Didn't even look at our info until almost 3 weeks later. Then, a response in a canned email that simply said "sorry we have declined you". No explanation, no phone call to work with us as to how to adjust our income/expense portfolio to meet their criteria, nothing. Simply, "no". I'd love to be in a situation where I could turn away dollars from exceptionally credit worthy individuals with plenty of income to repay a small loan backed with personal real estate, investment income, perfect repayment history, and high W2 earnings also. Unfortunately I have to go to work, unlike this guy. He gets paid to literally do nothing all day. I'm wondering what you would need to get approved from them at this point. I guess if you earn less then 200K, have any debt whatsoever, or have less then a perfect 850 score, don't bother applying here. Zero stars. There are 3 other companies getting all the interest this bank could have had if they wanted to actually do what banks do, and lend money to worthy people.

They have rare US currency, and free student checking with no minimum balance, a great mobile app, (up to) 5 atm fees waived per month (anywhere), free coin counting, good interest rates on savings and CDs, and apple pay support! Phone support was good (in my experience, as they are able to easily put a stop charge on) Tellers are always super nice with me too.

We went in to ask a few questions today (May 25th, 2023) between 12:20-12:40pm, and the kid that works as a teller kept trying not to laugh at our questions. Overall our experience with her felt very unprofessional. At the very least she could have tried to understand our questions and try to help us.

I switched to Elgin State Bank after being with a larger, well known bank for years. The main reason I left is that I felt like they kept talking away services that the customer could actually use, e.g., exchanging coins. I have been very happy with Elgin State Bank. I have never had an issue with any tellers or the ATM machine. I will be a long time customer.

Do not bank here unless your a rich person because they do not care about the common man. I banked here for close to 10 years and never once overdrafted my account. They let a fraudulent charge go to my account which took all my money for the week and are charging me every day for overdraft. They don't care that i cant buy coffee or put gas in my car so now im stuck hungry and with no gas to go to my job. Thanks for looking out for me and my money. I urge anyone who reads this to find a different bank, one that cares about the little guys in life who may not mean anything to this bank because we aren't millionaires.

So I walk into this bank and have a teller, Patty, assist with my documentation request.I will, admit, I was a little short as I skipped lunch and was wanting to leave asap. Tammy was able to help me with the documentation so I was on my way..I had to get to UPS to have some items sent out.One problem, my car was dead and I just had the battery changed. I couldn't find anyone with cables but Patty said she would help. She could have said Sorry since I was a little short but she actually helped. When I apologized and mentioned I had a light breakfast and skipped lunch, she pulled out a kind bar and gave it to me. I was just shocked what a sincere, good hearted woman she is. We live in dark times right now but Patty proved there is light. Give patty a raise, time off or something to show appreciation. Yeah I'm a fool for not having cables and skipping lunch. Lo siento.

I don't know that I can call this a bank. I am on the board of a small non-profit and we make deposits pretty regularly. 9 times out of 10 the ATM is BROKEN. It's either out of receipt paper, not accepting cash, or just not working in general. I have had a checking acct. at the same bank since I turned 18 and you know how many times ANY of their ATMs have been broken? Zero. Today the sign said I could come back AFTER business hours and use the night deposit- I'm not the person who keeps our checkbook, so 1, i don't have any deposit slips, 2. What if i had driven all the way out here from farther away to be told "come back when we're closed". This bank is perfect if you like to carry around cash that belongs to your organization everywhere you go in hopes that the next time you're in the area you can use the ATM.
