So grateful to Marya Gibbons who went above and beyond with finding a funeral book for an out of state funeral.
She searched through her vendors, found the exact book I requested and ordered it so it arrived on time. Thank you so much,
Marya! So grateful for your support!

These people are absolutely awful. Please don’t let them shape your lasting memory of your family member. Marya is genuinely a terrible person.

Thank you to Marya and Tucker Gibbons and the whole team at Gibbons Funeral Home in Elmhurst for taking such excellent care of our family in the last two weeks. We are immensely grateful. You provided such kind, compassionate, and timely care when my father passed in the middle of the night. My father's funeral this past weekend was beautiful and everything was managed perfectly from the moment my siblings met with Marya to create a plan to the final moments at the cemetery. Gibbons even arranged for us to live-stream the memorial service as we have family overseas and everyone was so pleased to be able to participate from afar. We also really appreciated the photo streaming at the event as well as the on-line memorial tribute. Everything was handled so well and with such care.

I've never visited a funeral home where we were rushed out until now. The lady in charge literally made a last call announcement at 730pm and we all had to be out by 8pm sharp!
What happened next was appalling and will be for most of the family the last memory they have of their loved one. The immediate family was still saying their last good byes to their lost loved one when the lady who earlier made the last call announcement ripped the jewelry off the deceased to hand over to the family. This could've been avoided and done after everyone had cleared the room. I'm still in shock at the callous act.

I recently attended a wake for a beloved family friend at Gibbons Funeral Home, and while the event was intended to be a somber occasion for grieving loved ones, I couldn't help but notice the staff's unsettling and unprofessional behavior.
As friends and family brought in food for the grieving family, the employees appeared more interested in helping themselves to the offerings than attending to the needs of those present. Before the family could even have a chance to eat, the staff members were filling their plates and returning for seconds, leaving the mourning relatives to pick at the scraps.
When a family member politely addressed the issue with one of the workers, they were met with a rude and dismissive response. The employee displayed an utter lack of compassion and respect for the grieving family, shrugging off their concerns and justifying their actions by claiming that other funerals allow them to partake in the provided food.
As if this behavior wasn't distasteful enough, I also couldn't help but question the intentions behind their practice of collecting sympathy cards throughout the event. While it may have been an innocent gesture, given their questionable actions, I couldn't shake the suspicion that they might be searching for any potential money or gifts.
Furthermore, I found it incredibly tacky that the funeral flags they placed on cars for the procession were emblazoned with the funeral home's name in bright orange and black. It seemed more like a marketing ploy than a show of respect for the deceased.
In conclusion, my experience at Gibbons Funeral Home left me feeling disheartened and disappointed. The staff's behavior was not only unprofessional but also displayed a lack of empathy for the grieving family. Their actions overshadowed what should have been a time for remembrance and support, leaving a distasteful impression on everyone involved.

Terrible place. Disorganized mess. Disgrace of a funeral home.

Marya knows her stuff. You will not find anyone that knows this business, and all the unexpected things that come up with the death of a loved one, more than her. She has been there for us on many occasions and continues to remain as professional as well as compassionate and personable. You are treated like family.

I never thought to Yelp a funeral home but since it's an option I'll give Gibbons Funeral Home in Elmhurst a 5-star review. I grew up in Elmhurst and I've probably attended 10 or more funerals here, including two family members, and one funeral at their Portage Park location on Irving Park Road in Chicago. This family runs an excellent business, one that is much needed in the community, and a business for which the owners and staff probably don't get enough praise. This is a hard job and the Gibbons family truly excels. Both funeral homes are warm, inviting, beautifully decorated. Peaceful and welcome.

I experienced a loss in my family and had to contact Gibbons Funeral Home about 10:00 one evening to help assist with everything. Marya was extremely accommodating throughout the whole process. We met the next day and she was compassionate and very detail oriented. I had specific questions and concerns and she made sure to address or get answers for every single one of my questions. I could not be happier with how everything transpired. I was not expecting to have to organize a visitation and thankful Marya made it easy for me. The building was beautiful and my loved one was well taken care of. Thank you for all of your help Marya. You are a blessing.

We worked with Gibbons for my mother’s funeral and they were compassionate and professional. I know it was particularly challenging this year during Covid, and they did a great job, especially working with all the various requests from different family members and bridging those gaps. A special thanks to Mayra Gibbons who managed all the arrangements perfectly.

Losing a mother is always a difficult period. Having Marya available to answer questions and guide you with patience and experience was invaluable. She understood my mother’s wishes and followed them to the letter.
I’m grateful for her being there to help me every step of the way. I’ve never given a rating to a funeral home before, but I’d give them 5 stars.

Working with Marya was a pleasant experience during a very difficult time. She was very efficient, but yet very kind. We were so very grateful for her guidance and comfort. The funeral home space was also very nice. The second space for snacks, and a younger kid hang out was perfect. Would highly recommend Gibbons Funeral home in Elmhurst.
