A few months ago my niece took her 2001 Ford Focus to Fred's for service which turned out to need both the front and rear subframes replaced due to corrosion damage. We are not sure exactly what work was really done because they do not give you a typed or printed out receipt detailing the work, they give you a hand written receipt that for the most part is illegible. When my niece picked up her car after the work was finished the check engine light and the ABS and brake lights were on and they told her (after the fact) to drive it for a couple of weeks and see if they would go away. Well, they didn't even after I used a code reader to clear out the check engine light it came back on (evaporative system, gas cap) so I had her take it to a shop that I have used for 20 years, Adams Automotive in Richmond. There they do a full on dianostics and inspection where they send you a link to that inspection so you can read it for yourself and they then send you links to estimates for each portion of the work that you authorize to be done based on that inspection. In other words, unlike Fred's which operates like its the 1970s still Adams Automotive operates like a 21st century automotive service center should. One of the things that struck me the worst about Fred's is that after they installed the replacement front and rear subframes they reinstalled worn out suspension components instead of letting my niece know that they needed to be replaced. As the owner of a manufacturing business which has been in business since 1975 I am dismayed by the lack of professionalism that is displayed at Fred's. I know a lot of Fox Lake Locals use Fred's as there are not many independent shops in that area but there is absolutely no excuse for not have a clearly typed or written up receipt for all work that is done or for additional work that needs to be done.
One last thing, while the car is a 2001 it has less than 90,000 miles on it and no rust on the body yet the people at Fred's have repeatedly said that they would junk the car and not spend the money for the repairs.......SMH

These are the most kind hearted and experienced group of mechanics I have ever known. They do great work and 100% of the time I walk away with a repaired and good to go vehicle . I highly recommend them for any mechanical work on your vehicle

I am from Rochester, MN and was on my way from picking up my mother who was given some of the worst medical news of her life to get the best treatment she can from the St Louis area. Our Trailblazer had suddenly gained a misfire on the fourth cylinder and we didn’t know what we were gonna do.We pulled into Fred’s and I asked how quickly they could aid my mother and I and they were able to get us in and out in less than an hour. Without their kindness and swift action, we wouldn’t have made it to Rochester.Thank you to EVERYONE at the shop, your kindness was seen and appreciated by my mother and I at our time of need.

Stopped in late afternoon Friday and the place was jammed. Even so staff took the time to look at the warning light on my dash and check brake fluid. Had car repaired on Monday with prompt, friendly, and reasonably priced service (per son who is a mechanic in another state) very happy. I bought my truck and had my motor mounts and transmission mounts replaced. The truck was ready on time as agreed and price was decent. Im very satisifed, my truck has over 223,000 and hoping to get to 300,000.Lol Thanks guysTedService: General repairs & maintenance

The best service I have ever received. Very dependable and prices are amazing. If you think you got a high estimate from a dealership take it to Fred's. They will not disappoint you! Pretty sure that my Toyota would not have made it to 275000 miles if I did not have Fred's Auto Service
