My wife and I aren't professional antiquers. But we love to browse through antique stores while on vacation. Just like we love to browse through book stores. And if you have a passion for antiques, you are encouraged to visit historic Galena, Illinois, which features as many antique stores as it has restaurants and boutiques. One of the finest is Tin Pan Alley Antique Mall. Located at 303 South Commerce Street, across from the historic Galena Post Office, it has been in business for 25 years and is open from 10 to 5 daily. Specifically, it specializes in a unique collection of 1800s antiques, which are increasingly difficult to find today. On one of our visits, we uncovered a Sterling silver napkin ring holder with a family signature dating to the mid-1800s, which rounded out my wife's extensive collection. Other items on display are hand-crafted folk art, pottery, Victorian toys, French and English furniture, vintage garden collectibles, vintage jewelry, original artwork, architectural remnants, kitchen ware, fine china, vases, handbags and sculpture. If you have the time--you're on vacation, aren't you?--it's fun to browse through the aisles and discover something you weren't expecting to find.

So small. The man working the never spoke to us. I actually never knew he was there until we were leaving.

Galena used to be antique heaven. Down to 2 which have little to offer. Allergies to dust? Dont go. Parking is still atrocious. Remember to bring a full tank of gas to patrol for one. My 2 cents

I love antiques and this was a nice stop. When I look around and something catches my eye i usually buy it. Reasonable prices folks. They are antiques! I'll definitely be back.

Sparse and pricey. There was a painting with a large hole/tear in the middle and it was still priced over $100.
