Terrible cancellation policy. Watch out if you get covid because you are paying the whole amount. But you are not allowed to go with covid. Who knows that they are going to get covid nine days in advance. Ill always be honest but sometimes honesty doesn't pay off.

Now the Galena Inn. Really great breakfast with mimosa. Relaxing, quiet setting. Terrific innkeepers, who made the experience even better. Very hilly walk into downtown, including stairs.Rooms: Large and very comfortable bed. Nice showerNearby activities: Downtown Galena with plenty of shops and restaurants. Ate at Log Cabin Steakhouse and Dirty Gurts. Both excellent service, food and fair prices.Safety: No problem. Felt safe and at ease everywhere.Walkability: Not an easy walk to downtown area. Steep hill that includes about 200 stairs. It's not a long walk to town. Just be careful. If you drive, parking could be hard to find. Walk if you are able.

High above main street but fairly easily accessible by stairs. Mansion was very nice, hostess was very kind and told us lots of history about the mansion and village. Rooms were very good, beds too.

This old Victorian home is beautiful. The owners however have no clue on how to decorate either a Victorian Inn or a modern Victorian inn. They need a decorator. The owner fancies himself as an entrepreneur that can wear every hat but redecorating this inn fell flat. We were denied breakfast even though it is a B & B. The service was so poor, basically non existent. I love Galena and have stayed in 8 separate locations there. I cannot recommend this one.

Our payment didn’t go through. They don’t have a card swipe. We didn’t know and she gave us the keys to the room so we assumed all was well. We were then rudely woken up at 8am. Texts, phone calls, knocking on the door. They said the name was wrong. It’s a hard name. We gave the card but the zip code number was incorrect. They then proceeded to destroy our entire morning as we were calling the bank to find out why the card wasn’t working. They then entered the room while I was naked. If this didn’t happen, we wouldn’t have gotten the opportunity to see who these people really were, but we would have had a great stay. The hot tube was so nice, tho very slimy, and the breakfast was cute, not healthy.we could hear everything from the room above us.I wouldn’t go back. To see their true colors, I can’t give them my business. I hardly get to escape my life. To pay $225 and not get to relax is such a shame. I would have rather slept in my car.

Very disappointed in the owners of this home. We have unfortunately booked through booking.com and did not realize cancellation policies but booking.com was very understanding and told us they would waive their fee and it was up to the owner. My husband and I have been planning this weekend he is Military and he was called on assignment. We have tried to even rebook for when he returns home and they would not even talk to either one of us or answer my emails and having employees call and tell us we signed a no cancellation policy. I understand if this was an ordinary weekend but this is the most popular weekend in Galena. The first weekend in December. Everyone from all over comes to Galena for the Fireworks and wants to stay downtown. They probably have the room booked as I am typing this and for them to keep $432 from military members is very sad. I understand charging a fee and we would be willing to pay a fee. This is just so unreasonable. I hope you have a wonderful Holiday

My husband and I had a fun weekend getaway to Galena. We really enjoyed our stay at the Galena Inn (formerly the Victorian Mansion). The location is great and if you don't mind a lot of stairs, it's a quick walk to the historic downtown area. The inn keeper, Kerrie, was a wonderful host. The inn was beautifully decorated with a mix of antique and modern that worked well together. After a busy day exploring the area, the inn was a great place to land. We enjoyed a bottle of wine we picked up that day on the porch in the evening. So peaceful and relaxing. Our room was comfortable as it was pretty - bed comfy, sheets soft and the towels plush. And, the morning breakfasts were delicious. We'll definitely stay here again next time we're in Galena.

Beautiful on the outside and the room seemed very nice. Then we found blood on the mattress pad. Will not be back.

BEWARE if you have CHILDREN! CILDREN ARE NOT WELCOME! Booking.com allowed me to make a reservation (typed in that we have a child), later when I called to confirm some things about the location (read not so good reviews about having to walk 200 steps and I have a broken bone...)I was told that my child is not allowed. They later called that the owner said ok for the child, but we wouldnt be allowed to go into the dining room for breakfast or porches with the child. What I found beyond rude is how they responded by saying - " People come here to relax, not to listen to kids crying or being loud" How rude is that? I will certainly not recommend it to anybody. This was supposed to be our anniversary trip - found a different place in even better location!

Our innkeeper was delightful. The house is beautifully appointed. We stayed in the Blackhawk Suite in the coach house in back. That meant everytime we came and went, we walked past the beautiful garden area. That was a nice place to relax outside. The drive to downtown Main St was about 5 min. However, the walk was about 15min down the stairs at the end of the street. Take your pick. All in all, a very enjoyable stay.

Kerrie is the best! Don't pay attention to lesser reviews. My son is a college linebacker/end, and can't stop talking about the place (he is a big Jane Austen fan.)There's a lot to historical attmosphere, and this place has it with all the presence (previous) of U.S. Grant "haunting" the place. Such a very cool experience. We are going back this Fall.Len & Jesse BaileyWheaton

We visited the Victorian House in April 2021 for a quick weekend getaway. It exceeded all expectations and we had such an amazing trip! We stayed in the Estey suite. I made the reservations online. Check in was super easy, the room was clean and comfortable and we loved the jacuzzi tub in the suite! There is a very cute continental breakfast in the morning with fresh coffee, bagels, fresh fruits, stuff to make mimosas- we loved it!Somethings to mention that I don't think I've read in previous reviews- there is beautiful original artwork EVERYWHERE. Like, gorgeous paintings. We loved walking around and looking at all the beautiful paintings everywhere. Another thing is there is a big wrap around porch on the first and 2nd level. Plenty of seating out there and each seat they've equipped with a candle and lighter.Overall, this place is AMAZING and has made me want to stay exclusively at B&B's in the future. It was quiet, romantic and beautiful. I hope to be back again!
