I have been your customer for several years and while I gave you five stars my first year shopping there, I have to endorse your staff again!
Yesterday, I accidentally Zelled $500 to your employee Jose Hernandez. I was trying to pay one of my trades because I work as an interior designer; it did not occur to me that I had paid the Jose from your store.
Jose called me, identified himself, and took initiative to address the confusion; he could have easily pretended he did not know who I am and just kept the money. Yet he paid me back within a few hours. This is an example of honesty and decency that I feel I cannot count on very often and I want him to be commended for it.
While most of the people at your store are always courteous, Jose is one of the only ones who goes out of his way to greet me and be helpful. Here is the significance: he is helpful, not just courteous. Please keep him on staff and pay him handsomely for his services because I truly believe he makes Ace The Place to Shop in Highland Park.
Please pass this information along to your owner, Kyle Sheehan. I appreciate your services and I look forward to many many more years of working with you!

I really like Mutual Ace Hardware. They carry a lot of unique products and their garden products are great. I especially appreciate the friendliness and helpfulness of the garden delivery driver. The rental department is also very friendly and helpful as well. Overall a great place to shop.
Yet, every time I encounter this one cashier (I don't need to name him because I think the owner and staff there already knows who I am referring to), I always leave promising myself I'll never come back. And honestly, I mean it, if not for my wife and her love for the garden products and their frequent sales.
He is rude, short on patience and just simply does not have a filter. The one big stain on an otherwise great business. The interactions simply leave me fuming for hours, genuinely confused as to what I did wrong and why in the world a great business like this is still keeping him around, especially to be the face of the store where every customer must interact with.
So this review is specifically aimed at ownership with the hopes that something changes. IF he is indeed a special case where letting him go isn't an option, put him in an alternate position where pissing people off when they're literally handing him money isn't his core responsibilities.

We had a project we were working on in our backyard and nailer we got ended up being DOA. Ran over to our local Ace and Ryan in rentals was able to get us setup. Since the nails we bought were not going to work on the new nailer he hooked us up with the correct ones. You don't get this type of service from the big box stores. They have a customer for life! Highly recommend.

Ryan at Mutual Ace Hardware, in the Rentals Dept, is amazing! We needed to rent a karaoke machine et al for a rehearsal dinner, and Ryan couldn't have been more helpful or kind. He knew how to outfit us properly for our needs and couldn't have been nicer doing it. We have shopped and rented at Mutual Ace for decades, and Ryan is an example of why. Thank you Ryan; we are grateful! And our rehearsal dinner will be excellent thanks to you!
