They shouldn't even have one star. Wish I had read Google reviews before booking with them. Seems they do the same terrible thing to their customers over and over again. My biggest regret of 2022 was choosing Zippy Shell. I was lied to and mislead on multiple occasions. Rather than evaluate and modify the sales process to provide better predictability on needed space, its a thumb in the wind estimate. In my case that meant scrambling to find another moving truck and storage for items that were left behind when our house was being sold the next day. In addition, the third party moving service they contracted with in Chicago nearly totaled my neighbors new SUV, did not wrap furniture as they were supposed to if supplies were provided, and I had a couple of items damaged. It gets better (or I should say worse). I spoke to a claims representative who encouraged me to include the additional cost of getting a uhaul, storing my items, having a family member ups ship a couple of smaller boxes and getting a ubox to ship the rest of our stuff. That was in August. I was patient for the 90 days they said it could take to evaluate my claim. The ninety days came and went. It took 5 calls and multiple emails to actually have them issue a response to my claim. Then, when the response came, I was given no consideration for $2,000+ in additional expenses that were incurred. I feel so deceived by this company. If it was my responsibility to determine how many containers I needed, why say put it in the claim and then take OVER your SLA to respond? All the other companies I had quote for this move had me provide a detailed inventory list to predict the amount of space needed. In addition, the response to the claim states that on both sides of the local moving companies confirmed nothing more could fit in. That's simply false. The lead mover in Portland commented that the Chicago crew could have arranged the items differently to fit everything given the tonnage of the load. It was very gracious of him, considering he was told not to comment on the movers in Chicago. Just sounds like Zippy Shell was trying to get themselves out of this one.Don't less the bless your heart pleasantness of the sales and customer service team fool you. I could have contracted with a full service company and not listed a finger packing my own items for the same price that it cost for me to use Zippy Shell.

RESERVE AT YOUR OWN RISK !A little over 2 months ago I made an inquiry on a long distance move. By the time someone got back to me I had already booked with Pods which I relayed to the representative. He responded asking me to give this company a chance as they were Pods competitor. I did. I cancelled my reservation and began the process with Zippy Shell.Initially, everything was great! They explained the process and were very helpful with the questions that I had. Satisfied with everything, I was told I sat back in anticipation for my move.2 months later and few days before my move I called Zippy Shell just to confirm everything was still on track and was told that they were good to go. They told me the shell would be dropped off on the agreed upon drop date and that I should see the initial payment taken from my account. Later that day the 1st payment was taken so I knew everything was on track.A few days later, when the shell was supposed to to arrive it didn’t. The delivery window had passed so I began to panic slightly . I called Zippy Shell to figure out what was going on and after waiting on hold for 20 minutes (The rep couldn’t get in contact with the warehouse the shell was coming from) she stated that the warehouse had truck issues and that they would not be able to deliver today.I took a breath.I explain to her that that response was not acceptable. I had arranged this 2 months ago and only had a day to get out of my home before the new tenants arrived. She stated that she understood but the new delivery date would be on Sunday. I reiterated that solution was not acceptable as I had to be gone by Friday. She told me that she would get with the warehouse manager for alternate options and get back to me. That never happened.I called back and spoke to another rep. I asked to speak to the warehouse manager as I was beyond livid that they put me in the bind that they did. I called and confirmed everything was good was that a lie ? I asked if he could get the shell on another truck that wasn’t broken. He paused and asked me what I was talking about. I told him the previous rep told me the truck that had my shell broke down. He stated that was a lie and that they overbooked. I re explained the urgency of my situation to which he stated that there was nothing that they could do. I asked him for a full refund as the service was completely unprofessional and had no communication. They took my initial payment on time but didn’t have the decency to call me to let me know they truck was broken. He stated that I would receive a full refund without penalty as this error was completely on them.I then called pods and received a unit the next day.The only reason I give them one star is because of the rep who admitted they were at fault. Other than that, this experience showed me how uncaring and unprofessional this company is. They are just after money. I can only imagine how many others have been in my situation.Simply put. Stay away.

I used Zippy Shell to move from California to IL. We double wrapped our precious belongings and watched the movers load everything into the trailer. I received up to date notifications on expected arrival. My belongings arrived as expected without damage. I would recommend this company.

BEWARE: fraudulent company. Contracts to provide services at one price and then extorts customers for exorbitant additional amounts once they have your belongings, using belongings as leverage. We contracted with Zippy Shell for a long distance move, specifying numerous times we needed to include our baby grand piano. They noted the piano and repeatedly assured us this would be no problem and their quote took into account moving the piano.Come moving day, the movers sent told us their company does not, as a policy, move pianos--indeed, they were not even certified to do so. We got on the phone with Zippy to resolve the issue and were told a resolution would be forthcoming shortly. The service agent on the phone was very clear that, in the mean time, we needed to make sure the rest of our items were loaded or we would be charged additional elevated rates for unduly extending moving time. We packed away all of our items and the movers left without any resolution. We called Zippy numerous times over the next three days, without any news of a resolution. We were consistently told different things by service agents and supervisors, always told we would get a call back but never receiving any calls. On the fourth day, we were told Zippy could contract movers to come get the piano but we would be charged at minimum an additional 1.5k for the movers. We would also be charged an extra three thousand for a second shell we did not need. A total of an additional $4500, an unexpected cost over 100% more than we had originally been quoted ($3000). This was unacceptable--a clear breach of contract they were unwilling to remedy. When we expressed we could not accept paying an additional $4500 beyond the price originally quoted for moving our belongings (including piano), they refused to return our belongings without additional charges of thousands and even refused to let us into the storage facility to retrieve our belongings without applying a charge. This despite the fact they had only had our items for four days.Had we known they would charge us $4500 above what we originally contracted or would financially bar us from our belongings, we would never have loaded the van and would have immediately canceled.

RODENTS IN STORAGEFirst of all when asking for updates on my moving pod, they were very quiet. Then the movers broke my dresser and removed pieces of furniture crucial to the structure (Legs, screws, etc.) and I did not receive them, making the furniture useless. But that's not the worst part. When I received my stuff, I noticed there were holes in some clothes/shoes. Then I picked up a brand new towel (with tags on it) and there were rodent droppings. Some rodents were going through and chewing through my clothes, linens, medicine, etc. No I'm waiting 3 months for them to process my claim. Ridiculous.STAY AWAY!!!

Zippy Shell lost all our items for over 2 weeks. Were 2 weeks late on delivery request and damage beyond repair an antique secretary desk and scratched every piece of wooden furniture. Very poor service. they basically held our belongings hostage. and then charged us for additional storage time.

BEWARE: Company attempts to extort customers. Once they have your belongings they try to force you to pay exorbitant additional amounts not agreed upon or set out in the agreed contract, using your property as leverage. They do not honor their contracts and perpetuate fraud.

I am extremely disappointed in Zippy Shell's lack of response and customer service for my long distance move. I have yet to hear from them as to when the truck will arrive with my belongings. I paid nearly $3000 for a service that has NOT in any way been worth it. I called to check on the status of the truck on Sunday and I was told that dispatch will reach out to me and I have yet to hear from them. I paid for a 6 to 8 day service which means that the container should arrive this Thursday. Additionally, it will be over a week since I have been at my new apartment with nothing but an air mattress. I will NEVER use their services again nor will I recommend Zippy Shell to any of my transient friends and family. I will make sure to provide them with the reviews and ratings that they deserve through any outlets possible. I will also report them to the FTC and BBB. This is beyond ridiculous and unacceptable especially when I had to deal with the terrible and rude service from the lead individual who arrived at the loading of my things. Aside from the bad service, they severely damaged a 40 - year old vintage piece of furniture which I have had for 10 years and is no longer being manufactured. I cannot emphasize again how bad of a service they have and I will make sure that this goes noticed and recorded. My items arrived 2 days later then they stated in their last update. In addition, many of my boxes arrived crushed with most of the items inside of them completely damaged of which now I have had to file two claims which each will take 90 DAYS to review. I purchased the 10k insurance coverage that they offered and will see how much of that they will try to scam their way through. THE WORST MOVING COMPANY!!!

I scheduled a move with these guys and paid a $1600 deposit only to be told at 4pm on the day of the move (after spending hours on hold to talk to someone) that they made a scheduling error and wouldn't be able to do it for another week. They offered a $200 credit for the mistake, which is a joke considering that they left me high-and-dry for a move.

Short version: My wife and I had most of our stuff shipped out on June 10 and it didn’t arrive until July 9.Long version: My wife, my one-year-old daughter, and I moved from northern West Virginia (roughly in the Pittsburgh area for those unfamiliar) to Chicago. We needed to have a “shipping pod” company move most of our belongings, so my wife went with ZippyShell. It was easy to schedule, and moving from our old house was fine, but things quickly went downhill. The rest of our experience is best organized with a timeline. June 10: The moving company contracted to pack up the shell and take it to the first warehouse comes and moves out everything we could fit. No issues. June 22: The morning after arriving in Chicago, we call to schedule the delivery to our house. After waiting two hours for a callback, a customer service representative informs us that our shell has not left its original storage warehouse. In other words, it’s been 12 days and the thing hasn’t even left the Pittsburgh area. The company flags our account as urgent. June 24 (morning): I call ZippyShell again to get an update. After another two hours of waiting for a callback, a representative confirms that our shell is now in the Chicago warehouse. The representative asks me for a preferred delivery date at least 48 hours from then and two back-up dates. I ask if the movers can come sooner because it’s already been two weeks since our shell left our old house. The rep says no because it can take 24 hours or so to even process the requests. OK. I choose June 26 for my preferred date and June 29 and 30 for my back-ups. June 24 (afternoon): ZippyShell sends my wife an e-mail confirming that our delivery will be July 2. I try to call, leave a callback number, and never get my call returned. June 25: After a couple more hours waiting for a callback, my wife gets to talk to a representative, who tells her that the soonest the contracted moving company can deliver is indeed July 2. Fine. July 2: ZippyShell sends my wife an email saying our delivery has been rescheduled to July 6. After waiting an hour or so on hold (because we’ve never gotten a call back in less than two hours), a representative informs us the truck that was booked to deliver our shell had broken down and will not be fixed until Monday. We spend another hour or so getting transferred around to various people only to be told that there is no other company available before Monday. A supervisor says the company will refund some of our money based on the delivery being “four days late.” Another member of management eventually agrees to increase the amount to be refunded because the shell was shipped late from Pittsburgh.July 6: ZippyShell sends my wife another email saying our delivery has been rescheduled for July 8. After an unusually short 10-15 minutes on hold, a representative informs me the warehouse had told ZippyShell that they are not available until Wednesday. The rep informs they can’t really guarantee any delivery dates because it all depends on the warehouse. A supervisor calls my wife back but doesn’t really give her any more information than this. My wife files a BBB complaint. July 8: Movers come to my house but there’s no truck. They’ve been informed the truck turned out to be too small for the shell. ZippyShell tells them drive to another part of the city, unload the shell, load the stuff onto another truck, and come back. They don’t come back, but I understand that might not be feasible in one day. A rep calls my wife at work (not me at home) to confirm with her that we want the movers to do this and come back tomorrow.July 9: After 29 days, the hostage situation finally ends and we get our shell delivered. A lot of our furniture is scratched, but who knows what stage of moving that happened in. I’ve never had a worse experience with any business. ZippyShell feels like a racket where they collect their customers’ money and then stuff their hands in their pockets and say “unfortunately there’s nothing we can do” when problems arise. Use any company except this.

From the office staff to the moving crew, this was a great experience! Everything was moved in and out carefully and respectfully. My belongings in storage never suffered any damage. I would highly recommend the Lake Zurich Zippyshell. Great prices too!

I lived in the military community amd needed to pack up and move. I contacted Zippy Shell amd received nothing but excellent service every step of the way. I worked with Jay and Ken and they were very courteous and explained the options and payment plans to me prior to setting up arrangements. They allowed me to pack the pod at my own pace with no additional charges and also accommodated me whe I was ready to recieve my items. Everyone, especially MILITARY, please use this company, they are HASSLE free and very professional. Prices are very reasonable. Thanks Zippy shell!!!!!
