So, we found Avantara Long Grove after a bit of a serious search to find a place for my Dad. The staff here are genuinely friendly. The people working here have tough jobs, for certain. I really want to give the biggest thank you ever to one of their CNAs, Oliver. He has endless patience, kindness, and genuine respect for the people he is assisting. He has been such a friend to my Dad, and has made such a difference in his quality of life. While waiting in the hallway during a visit, my dad required a cleanup. We overheard my Dad shouting “you’re the man, Oliver!” as Oliver was helping him. I just can’t say enough about how amazing he is. Management, if you’re reading this, please give Oliver a raise. The rest of the staff are nice also! There’s always an activity taking place , too, it seems. Thank-you Avantara of Long Grove. .

My personal experience of staying in this facility was very good. I needed continuing physical and occupational therapy while recovering from an accident. Therapist treated me 2X every day. Victoria, Christina & Mar were particularly wonderful. They did as much a they could with me while I healed. The best experience I had was with Jose, CNA. He is wonderful, helpful and efficient. It has been 4 months since my discharge and I still miss him.I was a resident during the summer and I was fortunate to have a husband that visited daily and took me outdoors, in the parking lot, daily. This residence needs a more easily accessible patio or garden or outdoor area .If you have to be admitted to a facility, I recommend Avantara, but be aware of your condition. Try to make the best of your situation and advocate for yourself.

I completely agree with Steven Muirhead and would add that the nurses that come from the Agency at a nighttime and on weekends are dangerous: they are professionally unfit, do not take care of the residents and patients, treat them like logs despite pain, do not change clothes during the night, disregard cries of the patients that are unable to talk and push the red button, do not pay attention to the room temperature, leaving disabled patients uncovered at low temperature, talk over the phone while feeding... There is a lot more on the list.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to JOSE TORRES, CNA at Avantara Nursing Home. This person really saves my mother Tamara Turko, who suffered a massive stroke, left a completely helpless sick old woman in need of constant daily maintenance, body hygiene and human compassion. Jose does his job 100% and much more. He does not need to be reminded to come into my mother's room and check on my mother, she does not need to wait for Jose for 40 to 50 minutes like other CNAs working at Avantara to be transferred to a chair or covered with a blanket, dirty bedding changed. Jose always takes care and knows (which is very important) the patient's condition, that the person is in pain, and always keeps in mind this pain, always tries to alleviate the patient's condition by turning her from one side to the other, providing correct support for the paralyzed arm and leg, proper position of the pillow under the head. For one month now, every day I see how Jose works and not only with my mother, his attitude is just as caring towards all other patients. When Jose enters my mom's room, she smiles and greets him with her good hand, her eyes glowing with joy and peace. Mom understands and knows well that she is in the safe hands of Jose! JOSE- you are the best and there is no other like you at Avantara! Huge, huge thank you!Dear Avantara Administration, please educate your workers from nurses to CNAs to remember that they are working with sick helpless old people who need human compassion first and foremost. Many of them do not even understand how to press the emergency call button. Their whole body hurts, but the CNAs turn them over like a piece of log... it's scary and painful to see all this. They lie in their own feces for hours and do not receive proper body hygiene, especially at night. But this is the work of your orderlies, for which you pay them. Please keep your employees working!!

The worst nursing home for dementia and Altzheimer's people.Staff rude, don't have a clue how to work wit these patients. Nurses don't follow doctors orders. To make sure that your loved one is receiving care you have to come and sttay long hours in the nursing home with them. Many family members come early in the morning and leaving in the evening or hire a care giver for their parents. And there is constant odor of urine. The linens and towels are old and grayish color.I have transferred my parents to another nursing home and now remember the Avantara as a worst nightmare.

My mother was in Avantara Long Grove in 2021 for six weeks after her stroke. It was COVID time, we were not allowed to come inside, but Avantara stuff and especially Enrique did their best to let us see my mother on Face time, they also organized window visits. Enrique was our main contact, he was absolutely amazing. We are so grateful! He is a kind, caring, very competent and responsible worker and a wonderful person. When my mother first arrived to Avantara he called me on Face time and let me see my mother’s new room and my mother smiling and surrounded by people who cared. This Spring my mother had to come to Avantara again. This time her recovery was longer. We are very grateful to the nurses, physical therapists and CNAs, who helped my mother. Jose, Daniel, Fatima and many other CNAs are caring and responsible people. I am very grateful to the nurses - Beata, Uliana, Rose, Cora and others. Many thanks to Tatyana - the manager and to Evita, who helped me with financial questions.Enrique was not working directly with my mother this time, but he still visited her and helped me to get information about her when I couldn’t visit. He is so supportive, I can see how much his coworkers appreciate him. He is the best!

Don't expect them to feed your love ones. They leave the food tray and it is up to the patient to eat it. This week will be the anniversary of my mom's passing. She was moved there from an assistant living home, because she needed more help. After 3 months, she lost so much weight and died of starvation.

Enrique Hidalgo: I have become personally acquainted with Enrique as a caregiver for my wife. Enrique epitomizes all of the positive characteristics a caregiver should possess. He truly cares for both his patient and the other people he contacts in providing care. Enrique brings a positive and pleasant demeanor in all situations and aspects of his duties that supports his patients recovery. Enrique truly is a role model.Robert Weber

Bottom line, I recommend Avantara in Long Grove because of the following:The nurses, OT, PT and nursing assistants make a strong effort to get to know you and and show deep personal concern over your well being and satisfaction. I wish I could remember everyone's name that deserve accolades:- Beata, my nighttime nurse treated me as if I was part of her family:-Note that the nursing staff in total was responsive to my questions - I just can't remember everyone's name.- Jay, remembered my personal preferences and went out of her way to keep me content.- Daniel and Jose have an incredible sense of humor and good nature while responding to personal needs.- The Occupational and Physical Therapy men and women were everything I could need. I arrived in a wheel chair and I'm now walking up stairs with no assistance.Again wish I could remember every ones name. Tim (OT) pushed me to my limits and I'm now walking on my own where 2 weeks ago I needed a wheel chair or walker. Jack (PT) kept me toned. I also remember a woman, Galena, who also pushed me also. There were others that deserve accolades, but I can't remember their specific names.- Jesse, my speech therapist, worked with my speech and throat which was affected by my vent tube. She paid significant attention to my issues and worked towards the solution. My issues:-I didn't care for the scheduling of meals at around 8:00; 12:00 and 5:00 and some of the food choices. I'm used to eating at a much different schedule at home and I wasn't used to the manner that the meat offerings were cooked. Note that cooking staff has to prepare for 200 residents and overall they did a nice jobconsidering the difficult task that they have.- My room didn't have a thermostat but a switch that turned the heat on and off. The room would get too hot and when I requested that the fan be turned off, it got too cold.- At times understaffed: waiting over 45 minutes for a response from the call button. This happened only a few times, not often but in an emergency there was no other way to get help if needed. All in all, I would go back if needed, mainly because of the outstanding concern for the patient when in direct contact with the staff. This is a rehab facility and they did a nice job getting me back on my feet.

It's dirty, room has not been cleaned in days, dust everywhere. Week ago I had to demend cleaning crew to clean room and bathroom and this is after my dad moved in , it has been couple of days but room has not been cleaned prior to his arrival. This is rehabilitation facility and no matter if it's week day or holiday, residents has to be taken care of, therapy has to be done, it shouldn't be an excuse that it's holiday and there is no staff.
