About Camp Shaw-Waw-Nas-See

Camp Shaw-Waw-Nas-See is a large camp with a huge property that includes a campsite and a state park side, full of culture and history as the land of the Potawatomi tribe. The camp offers many activities and features such as a swimming pool, a very fun zip line, a gaga-ball pit, a small garden, a farm, a well-stocked shop with reasonable prices, a creek, and multiple hiking trails. The creek is a highlight, described as beautiful, calm, and fun, where campers can slide down a small waterfall and wade in the water. The cabins vary; some, like the newly renovated Woodland cabins 7 and 8, are comfortable, well-lit, clean, and have actual windows and a ventilation system. Older cabins have different windows that can let in bugs and are darker, without ventilation. The overall vibe of the camp is friendly and inclusive, with campers open to making new friends from many different towns. Counselors are noted as being very kind and helpful. A significant area for improvement is the bathhouse, which is described as filthy, with bugs everywhere, showers and toilets yellow from age and urine, stall doors that don’t lock, and a smell of sewage. The location of the bathhouse requires a short walk. The food is overall good, including meals like mac & cheese, chicken nuggets, waffles, burgers, and cereal, with kind cafeteria staff. The camp is also known for hosting Shoefest, a beloved event, and is seen as a beautiful location for creating good times and lifelong memories. It is considered a life-changing, amazing, and really fun place where kids can make forever friends, with safety noted as top notch.
