About McHenry Dam
McHenry Dam is a peaceful and beautiful place for walks, talks, and stress relief. It is a quiet area where visitors hear the sound of water and birds. The location offers great walking and biking paths, including trails along the Fox River and a circular crushed limestone trail. Many people enjoy fishing from the shore or in boats. It is a popular spot for photographers to see wildlife like birds and turtles. The park provides picnic areas with tables and BBQ grills for birthdays and cookouts, along with amenities like free parking, restrooms, and a bait and snack shop. An educational shelter details the dam's history.
When I feel a little tired and in need of a bit of fresh air, I like to stop by the McHenry Dam to see what's going on. I'm never disappointed. This past spring, the far side of the channel became a pelican rookery for a short time. The next time I came back, they were gone.

I was born in Mchenry and was very pleased that not much had changed over the years. Still a great place to fish or just sit and relax.
