No regard for horse care or vet orders, can’t keep a groom, no consistent feed program, dirty buckets, incredibly rude owner with wild mood swings. Was promised many things that never happened (one example included: promising that the outdoor arena would be open in spring of 2022 and is still not up and running today- no sand). In the year I was there, my horses was injured or sick on 6 occasions due to inconsistent feeding program and outlandish rules that were created by a man who doesn’t know the first thing about horses. My horse came in from turnout with a major puncture gash and I was never informed by management or the groom on staff. Additionally, on two occasions, my horse was given meds that were not his.It is such a relief to be out of Prairie Oaks Farm. Save your horse and look elsewhere

Our trainer and 12 horses left one month ago and a new trainer moved in and no surprise they are leaving already. It’s a real shame that the owner is so difficult as the facility is very nice with heated barns, large turnouts and many amenities. But the owner is a toxic person who is rude to everyone and impossible to approach with any issues. He has ridiculous rules that put everyone on edge. He would claim that he put safety first but that was not the case at all. Aside from Martin who has been there for many years and is a very nice, hardworking guy, he can’t keep grooms. They would change almost weekly, partly due to low pay but also because they would get yelled at if they put adequate hay and shavings in the stalls. Because the grooms didn’t have time to get to know the horses, they would sometimes end up in the wrong stalls and consequently get the wrong feed. Horses that were on stall rest per veterinarian instructions were turned out because the owner insisted on treating all the horses the same. He would repeatedly remind us that although we thought we were at an upscale hotel we were actually at the Motel 6. He said this with pride. The small outdoor arena has too much sand, making the footing dangerous for the horses but he refused to remove it. The second, larger arena was unfinished and used to store equipment. He promised that it would be finished in the Spring but it never happened. When I asked about it I was told that I knew when I moved in that it was not a jumping facility. That was not at all true. And he continued to tell potential new boarders that it would be finished soon. There’s more to tell but you get the idea.

Not for everyone!Same basic care program for all, basically no say in how you want your horse taken care of. No special requests allowed. Water buckets don’t get cleaned, my horses grain was incorrect more times than I can count, very deep footing outside. Also, was told large outdoor arena was supposed to be ready last spring…

I am not one to publicly post, but after the complete lack of care and inconsistencies at Prairie Oaks Farm (POF) I wanted to ensure no one else would experience the same misfortune that we had at this facility.Upon first glance the grounds are beautiful, and the heated barns are a nice touch; but none of that makes up for the complete disregard for how this facility is managed and more importantly how the animals are cared for. While we were at POF our horse had many health issues that he never experienced 9 yrs prior to coming to this facility & mainly due to:- Grain Disparities- Lack of Hay & Shavings- Dirty Water Buckets- Turn out in extreme weather conditions.- Owners not being notified when their horse experienced an injury. Not to mention owners' erratic behavior toward his boarders and staff. Which is why POF is a revolving door of grooms and ultimately leads to inconsistent horse care.Best Piece of Advice....Stay Away!!!
