It said free breakfast included online, but when I arrived there was a “no breakfast” sign hanging. They don’t provide toiletries in the way you would expect (shampoo, conditioner, etc) it was just a single bar of soap.

I was the past 14 years I had stayed at this property numerous times. Upon check in this time I noticed it to be very different. First there was a sign that they no longer offered the modest breakfast that they used to. That is disappointing. The front desk check-in was not very welcoming. And I had recommended this hotel for friends passing through because it was clean and tidy and convenient. But the rooms felt very dirty. This time I was afraid to take my socks off.

Conveniently just off the highway. The owner seemed nice. I think they have family members walking around keeping an eye on people (which was creepy but understandable these days). The snack vending machine was broken and the drinks vending machine was operating but every drink was $1.00 for a basic can of soda or water bottle. The rooms were sufficient but small. The AC works well. It seemed pretty safe.Noteworthy details: They love using Superman in this small city of Metropolis.

Super 8 MetropolisFirst off, I spend a lot of time in hotels and motels, and I rate them based on value for price paid. I do not expect a $75 hotel to be the same as a $250 hotel, and I don't expect a $40 motel to be the same as a $75 hotel. This will likely be a pretty long review. I will mention minor petty things, but I won't take stars off for them. For example: a peeling popcorn ceiling in a room, or a poor caulk job around a sink in an older, less expensive place. Now, on to my impressions of the the Super 8 in Metropolis Illinois.I like that it is kind of isolated, but right at the interstate exit. There is a farm field to the north, an access road to the east, a highway to the south with nothing much on the other side, and 5 acre chunk of land with a lonely Pizza Hut to the west. That means no sketchy characters hanging around the parking lot or in the lobby. There's really no reason for anybody to be on, or drive through, this property unless they're staying here. The staff is friendly and available. Plenty of parking. This is a hotel with entrance to the room via interior hallway. An indoor pool, which is actually clean and functional, is available from 7am - 9pm. The common areas in hallways are clean. There are entrances and stairs on both ends of the hotel. It's a two-story hotel, but I didn't see an elevator, so request a first floor room if that'll be a problem for you. They do not serve breakfast, but coffee and juices are available in the lobby in the morning, and there are small coffee makers in the rooms. I stayed in a standard room with a king bed. It was plenty spacious and equipped with a decent size mini fridge, microwave, good sized TV, a small desk with office chair, and night stands on either side of the bed. Large room, but no soft chair or sofa. Nice sized sink/closet area with plenty of counter space around the sink. Toilet and tub/shower combination are in a separate area behind a door.Room is clean, and the carpets are cleaner than most. Bed was softer than I would like, but that's just a matter of preference. Lamps have standard 115v power outlets. Wi-Fi is good, and the TV HDMI inputs are accessible with a fully functional remote. I stayed in a smoking room, which are usually the last to be updated. Everything was functional and clean, but the ceiling does have peeling popcorn due to no primer before installation. Climate control unit worked perfectly, and the filters were spotless. There was a problem with the microwave, and they swapped it out immediately with no hassle. There is a very small town to the west, and if you can't find what you need there, Paducah, Kentucky is 5 miles away, just across the river, with every restaurant and store that you could possibly need. This is one of the nicer budget hotels that I have stayed in. Summary: If you want a clean, quiet place to stay at a good price, Super 8 Metropolis is a good choice.

The entire hotel smells of old cigarette smoke. The room smelled stale and of mildew. The lights in the pool area don't work with the exception of 2. The paint used around the pool is dangerously slippery. My daughter slipped and fell so many times that she would crawl to a dry spot to walk.

1. Rooms stink2. Cigarette burns in a non smoking room.3. No internet, no internet!!!!!!!!4. Dirty clothes are left in the room.5. Coffee pot was disgusting.6. The pool was cold and over chlorinated.7. The doors going to the outside don't lockanyone can come into this hotel.8. No breakfest.I spoke to the front desk, and I spoke to customer service. Nothing has been resolved!. I understand you get what you pay for hotels need to be kept at a standard! This hotel is nasty. there is no need to give any good reviews if it was all bad. Will never stay here again. I looked through all the reviews, and all this stuff has been happening at this hotel for awhile.

Super 8 room 126Person at the front desk was friendly and check-in was fine. Room is old, slight bug killer or cleaning solution odor but tolerable. The bathroom floor was very slippery like it wasn't rinsed off after a cleaning so when it got wet it was very slick. Shower worked as it should. Air conditioner worked great and was fairly quiet and the bed was comfortable. Had a good night's sleep. Went down for breakfast as all advertisements for the room says it comes with a continental breakfast but it does not. I asked about the breakfast and was told there is no breakfast anymore. This should have been posted at the front desk and the website needs to be updated.

Oh where do I start!I was in a double room that the frame had come apart and the TV was hung on the wall by wire! The beds were comfortable when the frame was fixed. The room was clean and no odors. The pool area was nice and warm! Was the best part of the stay. The next morning breakfast was a waffle, oatmeal, cold cereal, coffee, and a juice. I was more than happy to drive down the road to a fast food place. Not willing to stay there again.

BEWARE OF THIS PLACE!!! If you care about you and your family’s health. They will also charge you without notice! I wish I could give this place zero stars! The whole place smells of pure mold especially the hallways. We had weird bites that definitely weren’t from mosquitoes. Health inspection needs to pay them a visit asap! The bed sheets had literal holes in them. My kids were playing and rolling around on the floor and by the next day had swollen eyes and infections! The bathtub had brown stains on the rim. The toilet wouldn’t even flush right! We turned on the heat and the room smelled as if something was on fire. Under the chair and behind the beds were very dirty. They charged my credit card WITHOUT MY PERMISSION DURING our stay. The receptionist Barbara who refused to give me her full name had received a tip prior from us and said our bill was $80 at first and then my credit card company notified me that she tried to charge me $200! Fraudulent scammers. Miss Barbara even denied us when we asked for extra toiletries. You’re better off going to another hotel in the area with much better service and better cleanliness!

So I crashed here after driving 8ish hours on minimal sleep. Check in was fast and efficient. The room is ya get what you pay for, but I have no complaints. Shoutout to Barbara. She knows her job inside and out. She also directed me to a local place for a nightcap. If I happen to drive through here again, I'd stay.
