I sold my car to Carmax. The whole process took an hour, I got more than I expected, and I didn’t feel pressured to buy. Great experience!

I agree with the lower stars review. My experience trying to sell a car was terrible. All other dealers made an online bid and after a 15 min inspection gave pricing. Not 1 ever dropped pricing.
Carmax dropped pricing 2 times before they even saw the car and dropped it after they inspected it. They made false claims about the number of accidents on my vehicle (claiming more then it had) and claimed damage dropped the value. When I offered to have the "damage" carmax claims i had,, repaired by a fantastic auto body shop in naperville (White Eagle auto body), they flatly declined and said "even repaired its not going to increase the value"
Typical bait and switch and trained liars... from top to bottom, not an honorable employee in the store, all are poorly paid employees, at the end of their careers, willing to get paid 25k to lie for a corporation that will blame them for the decline in sales rather then address the terrible culture in the store.
Buyer beware. Even Experian complained about carmax claiming they make false statements about the "damage report" they are given on vehicles and "are using the data provided by experian incorrectly"
You will lose when you sell here... their no haggle policy applies only to you, not to them.

Used KBB for value and then accepted link to get no obligation offers. Carmax was the top and very close to the full retail value so I went for an inspection and they quickly confirmed their offer was valid which I accepted. Took less than 30 minutes after my appointment to leave with a check in hand. No hassles. No surprises.

There was an extremely long wait list on a Saturday, I would recommend choosing a different day if you go here. Secondly, it felt like the fast food restaurant of car buying experience. The staff reminded me of robots. The salesperson we dealt with would say the company cliche lines. It did not feel like a genuine experience. As we were leaving Karyn did try to pressure us by saying other dealers in the area were liars about trade in promises(which was false)

Bought a luxury car from you for $50,000+. IMMEDIATELY on minute 5 of owning it, it had problems. I get it inspected somewhere else and it has a strut leak. Here I am weeks later and still don't have the car I paid for. No one has reached out to make amends or improve the situation, just a call each day saying it's not ready. CarMax hasn't even gotten back to me about the $250 I spent on inspecting the vehicle that shouldn't have even needed a second inspection, but thankfully I did. I will say most of the delay has been on a failure from the dealership that has been working on the car. But timelines to get it fixed have dragged on. Seems that both CarMax and manufacturer dealership don't mind.
2/5 experience. Sales member Matt was great, service member Roberto gave me updates which I appreciated.

A few mo's ago, I bought a vehicle from the Aurora Carmax off RT 59. It turned out to be leaking massive amounts of oil. I brought it back a cpl days later & swaped it for another vehicle, I had my guys at AAA look at it, they gave me a list of 3 or 4 big issues and told me to take it right back as well. I was then given another vehicle, same situation (different issues). I was them put into another vehicle. My guys at AAA said No rear breaks (about 2mm). I told Carmax. They had me come back a wk or so later to have the brakes done.
A few wks later I bring it back due to my Pasenger Airbag no activating when my wife sits there. Before coming, I again had my guys at AAA look at it. They said there's definitely something wrong and needs a full diagnostic test done. This would cost $$$. So, they had me bring it back to Carmax, since it's still within their 90 day warranty. The service guys so far, are ok. But this location as a whole... NO GOOD!

Terrible customer service, the poorest communication I have ever encountered. Left us waiting for hours on end while the manager "worked on it" without telling us what "it" was and why it was taking so long. We ended up calling it and walking out in frustration when nothing that was told to us made sense and they were giving us the runaround while we were ready to pay full price on a crappy minivan.

Whole process from getting an online offer, making an appointment, selling the car with the business office was easy and efficient. Business office team is knowledgeable (was selling a car from my father's estate), efficient and friendly. My entire appointment to sell the car took less than an hour.

Fast, easy, efficient service. Everyone knows what they are doing. I was selling my car and it took less than an hour and they provided a Lyft ride home!
