About Joseph Smith's Red Brick Store
Joseph Smith's Red Brick Store is a great historic landmark to visit to learn more about the early pioneers. This building is of significant historical importance as a site of revelation, community gathering, and organizational instruction. Many historic decisions and events occurred here, including the establishment of the Female Relief Society of Nauvoo and the first endowment ceremony. The main floor is a cute store with souvenirs, replica papers, candy, journals, and famous cold root beer. While the store shelves are currently bare, research is underway to fill them with historically accurate goods. Upstairs, the rooms where these significant events happened are a highlight. The community of Christ church owns and runs the building, offering tours of the site and surrounding area. The tour guides are friendly and excited to share details, doing a great job explaining the cool history. While there is a small fee for the tour, it provides valuable insight. The building itself holds a lot of really cool and significant history, making it a worthwhile visit for anyone interested in the past.

One of the most important buildings in Nauvoo in the 1840s. The first temple endowment was given here to the Twelve Apostles and their wives. The Relief Society was organized here. And in the upper room Joseph Smith rolled off the Kingdom onto the shoulders of the Twelve completing all he needed to accomplish in mortality.
