My kid has been going to AAG Northbrook for months. They frequently change the coaches "without any prior communication" and argues that this is the norm. I asked if they have plans to communicate major changes in the classes in the future, but they said that everyone does it this way and we don't communicate things like that. Very unprofessional - really disappointed about how they run the business.I'm okay with the smelly old facility but I'm not okay with their 1940's mindset of running a business like this.

This gym is Awesome! My kids love going each week. The coaches are very understanding and patient. I have been to other gyms that don't care about your kids. This gyms coaches are very positive. They even have a coach who won gold medals at the Olympics. The Boys Team have had many kids on the National Team.

I recently enrolled my 3 year old child in a class at this facility, hoping that American Academy would be half as good as Buffalo Grove Gymnastics, which sadly closed. What I found instead was a dirty, poorly managed facility with a very young instructor who was not trained to provide basic gymnastics safety and skills to the kids, therefore letting them have a "free gym" that was unsafe instead of an actual class. I will elaborate here:1. The gym was so dirty. The garbages were so full that I couldn't throw away a wipe in the trash. The floor in the lobby by the garbage can was covered in a sticky substance that no one bothered to clean. I took my child to the bathroom, and BOTH toilets were broken. One had overflowed onto the floor. It was unsanitary to say the least. I had to bring my child to the parking lot in the back to pee.2. There were many male gymnasts standing around, not wearing their masks even when they were not on the equipment. Their coach did not bother to ask them to put them on despite the risk of COVID. Instead, the woman at the front desk pulled my friend's 3-year old out of the gym when his mask slipped down, completely ignoring the much greater threat of a bunch of teenagers standing around without masks.3. The very young instructor had NO plan or support from an adult. She did not teach the kids any safety or skills. The 3 and 4-year olds were not tucking their chins, so their necks were totally vulnerable. Several went on equipment without supervision when she had her back turned. At the fourth (and LAST) class we went to, one child fell from a fairly high wedge when the instructor wasn't watching, and my child fell and hurt her wrist. It felt like total chaos. My friend and I pulled both our children out of the class after this class. For 25 min. of a 45-min. class, the instructor just had the kids run on the trampoline. I could not believe we were paying for this. In the 4 weeks we were there, 3 of the 6 kids quit the class. I found out that this happened with 2 other children when my neighbor explained the same thing happened to her friends. 4. I called and spoke to an employee who answered the phone. I left a message for Kurt, the owner. He never called me back. 5. I spoke to the manager, Brittany, during our third class. Rather than care about customer service and my concerns, she was defensive of the young teacher, saying she was a good teacher, and she had an excuse for everything I brought up. She said they are understaffed and doing their best. I told her that she is risking serious danger to the little gymnasts by not having an instructor teach them to tumble safely and to use the equipment safely, and to not having kids in their follow COVID safety precautions when not on equipment. She said that I should give it another 4 weeks to see if the class improved. It did not, of course, because no one did anything to improve the situation.I have never had any of my children at a place where the management do not care if they are getting complaints and valid concerns about safety from parents. Their customer service is non-existent. The toddlers in the class were in an unsafe situation and a class that involved at most three activities (running on the trampoline, walking on the beam, and doing unsafe somersaults). The last day we were there, I found out from another mother of an 8-year old gymnasts that the gym her daughter never has the same instructor, and the teaching is subpar. She said they are looking for a better program and a cleaner facility. We are doing the same. I hope my review spares another parent from enrolling their child at this gym.
