It was a clean place and there were a lot of workers when I was there on Sunday. We took a dog from them. I just wish that they would have some discount for older people like us. But we took and we are not sorry.

Harleigh agreed to take in a stray dog that we didn't know anything about other than he was a stray for over 2 years! Once he (Phoenix) was finally caught, he was brought to BTR. I met a lot of the staff, including Stacy. I constantly bothered Stacy and everyone else (I mean it) by visiting Phoenix every weekend as we came to spend time with him getting him used to people. Eventually, we took him home with us and we are fostering him, but probably not for much longer (wink, wink).
I've learned a lot about rescues and shelters in the time spent trying to catch Phoenix, and I can honestly say that BTR is among the very best (if not the best) in the Chicago area. Here's why:
BTR takes dogs from all breeds, backgrounds, ages AND medical conditions. The vast majority of their dogs are local and they pull a lot from CACC! Unlike other shelters, there is no breed discrimination here.
Some shelters are merely "puppy flippers" who only take puppies - and generally those from out of state, while making the situation worse locally. I can go on and on, but really when looking for a new best friend, please put BTR on the top of your list to adopt from.

Border Tails is phenomenal! They take in so many dogs and cats!
They also work hard to get them placed quickly while making sure they’re going to a good home. They are very good about getting the animals off to a healthy start through their wonderful vet Isabella. Very good experience adopting our MagPie! (Maggie formerly known as Joy)
7/29/24 Border tails had a pipe bust along with the recent storms that caused flooding a few weeks ago. All the dogs.(about 100 I think had to be put in temp foster as did cats and kittens. The building are not livable at the moment. Please if you can foster, donate, or volunteer in some capacity, contact them asap.

A great rescue! In February 2024 we adopted a pup, the process was super quick and easy. BTR was very communicative. Our pup had an existing condition before officially adopting him, and BTR took care of that for us, once it was able to be treated. Highly recommend!!

I had a incredible experience at the dog rescue shelter. The staff is very attentitive and compassionate towards both the dogs and visitors. Facility is very well maintained and it was clear that the dogs were well cared for and loved. Impressed by the dedication of the volunteers who work tireleslly to ensure that each dog finds their forever home. I highly reccomened this dog rescue shelter to anyone looking to adopt a dog in need of a loving home!!!!

My boyfriend and I adopted our 3 month old German Shepard, now named Barney, last week. We are so thankful for the shelter walking us through this next big step and being patient with us on our decision that day. We are so excited for this next chapter in our life with our Barney and have Border Tails to thank! This shelter takes such great care of their animals and you can tell they love each and every one of them. One thing that really helped us was their “cat test”, which allows us to see how our puppy would respond to seeing a cat. Forever recommend this shelter to adopt your fur babies!!!❤️

This rescue was so quick in processing our application! We were able to meet 3 dogs when we went to visit and ended up with the sweetest poodle mix who we took home that same day. Unlike other rescues, they actually care about getting the animals into homes and they are very responsive.

We adopted two dogs from BTR over the past 4 months. One was supposed to be a foster and the second was them helping us pick the right friend for her. They are so responsive and helpful, whether you are fostering or interested in adopting. The staff is kind and are genuinely invested in the animals they rescue. They are a good example of what a rescue can and should be.

They gave us plenty of time to "bond" with the new puppy, a blind & deaf dachshund. He's sooo cute & is now bonding with his brothers. ❤️

Adopting from Border Tails has been a phenomenal experience. From the moment I submitted my application, their team was highly communicative and responsive. When I went to visit their shelter, it was full of staff members who knew each dog well and cared for them greatly. They were very open and honest about the dog I was adopting and their history, and they were also quick to respond via their text help line on my dog’s preliminary anxiety and side effects. I can’t recommend enough supporting this rescue. Four paws up!
