Bought five or more bikes here over the years for myself and the kids. Great selection, staff, and service once the miles start piling up.

This bicycle shop has been in the neighborhood for over a hundred years. The family business is always focused on building and maintaining good relationships with customers and anyone who just needs a little help. I came in to have my bike looked at and they provided me with excellent on the spot care. The entire staff were very friendly and honest. This is really a great place for service and accessories. I would highly recommend this place for anyone who is looking to buy a bike or in need of service.

This is the bike shop that everyone should have in their neighborhood. All manner of bike accessories, maps, safety items are available and on hand. All manner of bikes (including some unique collectibles) are on display and for sale. I'm a lifelong cyclist(that's nearly 60 years) and I've experienced every sort of bike shop and gearhead there is. Barnard's will provide the service you need without pretension, with a smile, and without pressure. I've purchased bikes for my teens, and relied on Barnards for quick repairs to my 30 year old Kestrel and 25 year old Cannondale Hybrid. Wherever you are in your cycling journey, the folks at Barnards can help get you where you want to be, without the attitude so often encountered in cycling mileue. I'm overdue for a new gravel ride to be able to keep up with my 25 year-old, and I'm scoping out some of the selection at Barnards for my next holiday gift.

I got my first bike Schwinn from Barnard’s when they were located at Harlem near South Blvd in Oak Park. I bought my son’s first bike from them at their North Ave. location. Jeff and his brother have always been kind, helpful and so informative. I have gone back to them over the years and always been pleased. I made the mistake of going elsewhere for some repair work on the bike I purchased from Barnard’s. I was told I would be taken care of to which I was not. I found myself returning to Barnard’s. They could not have been kinder and most professional. These guys truly know their bikes and how to maintain them. There is not a better bike shop in the area.

Bernards mounted new tires for my Stingray. Purchased by my father in the late 80's from Bernards. They still had a pair of new old stock red grips. Thank you Bernard's.

Went in for a bike tune up for my vintage bike and was quoted $120. I told the owner that the the chain was slipping and it was the main thing that needed to be fixed. I went to pick up my bike and they ended up charging me $200. A few weeks later the chain was slipping and my bike was already having issues. I went back to give them a chance to fix their mistake and the owner charged me AGAIN. Unfortunately I will not be bringing my bike back here. I was looking forward to supporting a local shop here in oak park but I will have to take my business elsewhere.

I'd heard of this store's century old rep. I have a schwinn e-bike and bought one for my wife. We did not purchase these at Barnards. I was left with the impression that they don't do e-bikes. Which is fine. I get that. Just say it. But they do sell them. We were there for a build finish. Handlebars. Wheel, etc. Guys says it needs bearings adjusted and all this other stuff and he doesn't have a rack, etc. (which I doubt - from factory in box my guess is that's all good to go, but I'm not Greg Lemond.) So, these e-bikes you sell come assembled? Or does someone ride them to you and then they get driven back home. And, I guess you can't service these e-bikes that you sell? This is how big boxes like Dick's bury century old shops. Which is sad.

Quick turn around time and helpful staff. I brought my son's bike in to get it checked out. Wasn't sure if it needed a tune up or just a quick check. I appreciated the fact that they were honest with me and didn't try to upsell a tune up vs. a safety check/greasing chain, etc. Will definitely be coming back for future bike needs! Thank you!
