If I could give zero stars, I would. I lived here years ago, and I already left them a bad review on Yelp. However on Yelp, they move the bad reviews to their legal entity name page (sketchy). The apartments would frequently get broken into, the hallway light was always out (and when you asked them to fix they would get upset), bed bugs broke out in the building, it constantly smelled like pot, etc. I asked if could switch to one of there more expensive buildings that was further into Oak Park, since I felt unsafe. They denied my request even though strange men had already tried enticing me to open the door for them while they covered the door’s peephole. Lastly management threatened to take me to court because I handed the keys in one day late (misunderstood the date I had to hand in the keys & I paid for the extra day). Save yourself!!!

Please avoid applying for OPA. I have never been more disappointed and discriminated against in my entire life. I applied for apartment, and the property manager repeatedly asked me and sent me the link to the application requirements even after I communicated that I meet the requirements.I had my friend look at the apartment in my absence since I’m out of state. I applied and was immediately rejected?? The rejection notice was blank. I emailed leasing to inquiry and Tracy refused to look into this. She is now simply ignoring me. I am disgusted by this lack of professionalism. They are intentionally steering qualified minority candidates away. They have a monopoly in Oak Park and they are intentionally causing harm. I’m saddened by this and I hope the village addresses this soon.

I wanted to thank all the Oak Park Apartments staff for a great service provided but specially to Ameena, Leasing Agent, that really helped me out so much in finding my apartment! Great service.

I regret to say that my experience with Oak Park Apartments has been less than satisfactory, primarily due to ongoing cleanliness issues and a lack of proper maintenance. One of the recurring issues I encountered during my time at Oak Park Apartments was the neglect of cleanliness, particularly in the laundry area. On multiple occasions, there were instances of dog feces left unattended, creating a highly unpleasant and unsanitary environment. This negligence in maintaining basic hygiene standards was a significant concern for me and other tenants.Furthermore, there seemed to be a lack of proactive monitoring and maintenance within the complex. I had to report issues such as air conditioning units that was ready to fall next to a car in their parking area. It was frustrating to have to bring these issues to management's attention when routine inspections and maintenance checks should ideally catch these problems before they inconvenience residents.I must acknowledge that Oak Park Apartments was relatively prompt in responding to service requests when made. However, this responsiveness could not compensate for the persistently subpar cleanliness standards and maintenance concerns. In summary, the recurring cleanliness issues, including the unaddressed dog waste incidents, along with the apparent lack of consistent monitoring and upkeep of the apartments, greatly affected my overall satisfaction with Oak Park Apartments. These issues not only posed a health risk but also led to my decision not to renew my lease. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend leasing an apartment with Oak Park Apartments, as these concerns undermine the overall quality of living in the community.

I was a tenant with Oak Park Apartments at 630 S Austin Blvd for one year. I was impressed with the professional attitude of the company, both under the Oak Park Apartments brand (which is the rental agency) and under the Greenplan Management brand (which is the facility management and go-to address for current tenants). My rental agent was Ameena Schellhase, who she was extremely patient with me, showing me an estimated 13 apartments over a period of almost three months before I made a decision. My apartment, like practically all the others Ameena showed me, was impeccably maintained, with shiny state-of-the-art appliances. Maintenance issues did occur, both at move-in and during my tenancy, but they were promptly and effectively addressed. I was never charged for any repairs, and my security deposit was returned in full after I moved out.Should I ever have a reason to move back to Chicagoland, I would not hesitate to rent with Oak Park Apartments again. However, I would probably seek out a different location—not next to a freeway (I-290), where life was noisy, and not on the top floor of one of their "vintage apartments", which are burdened with an antiquated heating system that cannot be controlled by the tenant (no air conditioning either). I imagine that if I had lived on the first floor, the temperature would have been agreeable, but on the top floor I had to live at 80+ degrees for most of the year—due to the heating in winter, due to the sun in summer. But I was aware of these shortcomings before moving in, and I cannot and will not blame Oak Park Apartments for concealing them from me.

Important information about Oak Park Apartments, from July 2023.Source: ACLU of IL“HOPE Fair Housing Center (HOPE) filed a civil rights complaint with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development against Oak Park Apartments, one of the largest operators of rental housing in Oak Park, Illinois. The complaint argues that Oak Park Apartments’ “No-Evictions” policy both discriminates against Black renters and Black women renters and perpetuates and reinforces residential segregation.”

I had a great experience living at Oak Park Apartments for 2 years. For 2 separate maintenance issues, they were there by the next day and it was fixed. The building was always clean in common areas, and the other tenants were friendly and respectable. One thing I wasn’t fond of, was them raising laundry rates from $1.25 to $1.75 with no warning.

Contacting Priscilla is like trying to summon a phoenix from the ashes… We received a an email requesting more paperwork. Sent those over, then waited a whole three days for an answer only to hear we didn’t pass the application. If we didn’t pass… why ask for more documents, then wait three whole days to tell us essentially “never mind?” As I can see from the one star reviews, we dodged a bullet. Waste of time, though.

Gave me the runaround for the duration of my lease regarding a leaking roof. Never got fixed after a year of repeated outreach. Also had them send an exterminator to inspect a mouse/rat infestation due to corner-cutting construction which left several large holes behind the kitchen cabinetry prior to my move in. Again, never got fixed… Though I did catch the exterminator on my security camera taking a peek in my underwear drawer. The rent price certainly went up though so I feel bad for whoever moved in after me.

Horrible business, they make you resign your 26 page lease 3-4 months in advance, the storage area of my building has mold and dead mice, after many complaints nothing was done. We had a huge pipe burst and no response from maintenance. They also will not let you ever break your lease, no matter what the situation is. They have no heart, they will raise your rent every year, they are awful. Don’t rent from them.

I waited a year and half to give this review because I was waiting for the dust to settle. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT LEASE from these company. They are very deceitful, rude and incompetent. They lie every chance they get. I applied after seeing an apartment with Tim Sperduto.I was charged $350 and transferred over to rude Priscilla who made my life hell. She stated I needed to add guest staying overnight to my lease. After canceling the charge with my bank, she got mad and stopped all communications. Tim never intervened even though I met him. Tim is also another liar, who lied about a garage parking he never showed me, how convenient.Anyho, they sent me to collections and those people proceeded to make my life hell for 6 months. Collections called me at least 4 times a day. OPA never cared to resolve this issue with me. Glad I won my case, and I am warning everyone who cares to listen to stay away from this company. Have every conversation through email because that was my saving Grace. How cruel of this company to try and ruin my life and credit over $350 they never earned or worked for. They are thieves and liars. If I could give negative stars I would. My one mistake was not reading reviews before contacting them. All of this happened April of last year. I wish this company all the bad luck that can possibly befall them.

We had a frustrating experience with OPA. It was really upsetting based on the circumstances we were in. We have steady jobs and Tracy from Oak Park apartments was not even open to working with us. Plus, the process took way too long. We were planning on a re-let with a friend that we know! But because they took too long it screwed him over too! My girlfriend is a full time nanny who makes good money. They were not accepting of this and while we were trying to communicate with Tracy… instead of working with us and responding to our email she sent us a letter declining the application. They don’t let any sub-letting here, nor do they allow co-signers just a heads up! We’ve heard great things about OPA from friends so this was really upsetting. Our current living situation isn’t very ideal so we would’ve appreciate an open ear from OPA. In this scenario they were closed off to us. Sad stuff. I hope they consider you and are willing to work with you or whomever is reading this review.

Overall the staff are well mannered and mostly a pleasure to deal with. Maintenance requests are also solved in a timely fashion. However, although property managers have the ability to choose not to renew a lease for any given reason. In all my experience this has rarely happened. My only issue with Oak Park Apartments was that they decided not to renew my lease without any given reason. Yes, my rent was paid & I wasn’t a troublesome tenant. Prior to moving in I wish I knew how common this was here, or I would’ve stayed away. (Updated) I removed a star because although I complained several times the apartment remained ice cold throughout the winter. Heating is an actual issue here

Stephanie was dedicated to find me an apartment that checked all my boxes! After quite a few showings of multiple apartments and buildings, she was able to locate my dream apartment. I would absolutely recommend her as a leasing agent.
