The Standard Oil Station of Odell, Illinois. The station was built in 1932 and ran efficiently until 1946, when a bypass was built, diverting traffic around Odell.Although gasoline sales drastically declined due to the decreased traffic, the station remained open with two bays and a full-time mechanic. After years of the property's decline, the town of Odell purchased the station in the 1990's with the sole purpose of a historical restoration. A tremendous amount of time and effort went into this revitalization and in 1997, it was placed on the National Register of Historic places.Just another reason to get your kicks on Route 66.

This location did not show up in my research for our trip down Route 66. We just happened to drive by it while looking for something else on our list. It was closed when we came by, but I was able to get pics of our car in front of the vintage gas pumps. It looked to be well maintained! Love these old buildings! They are a great part of our History!

What a great place to stop on the Route 66 journey. Memorabilia inside and out. Even a little shop with Route 66 soda pop, magnets, stickers, and a lot of other items.

The Standard Oil of Illinois Gas Station is a Route 66 icon!! It was built in 1932 and originally sold Standard Oil products. The building is based on a 1916 Standard Oil of Ohio design, commonly known as a domestic style / “house with canopy” style of gas station. It’s so legit is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

It's even got that authentic mechanic garage smell! Cool old gas station on historic route 66. If you buy something here, just know it is cash only. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it's in Illinois.
