Consumer alert...this could happen to you. I recently purchased a Vanilla Visa gift card from the Walgreens location in Olympia Fields, IL (Vollmer Rd.), and unfortunately became a victim of what appears to be an increasingly common and unaddressed pattern of fraud associated with these cards. When I attempted to activate the card, I discovered that the three digit security code on the back had been scratched off, making the card unusable. What made this especially concerning was that the packaging appeared fully sealed and in brand new condition at the time of purchase. After researching the matter, I was alarmed to discover that this issue is widespread and affecting countless consumers nationwide.
I immediately reached out to Walgreens and spoke with the store manager, who directed me to Walgreens corporate office. I filed a formal complaint there and also contacted Vanilla Gift card’s customer support. They placed a hold on the card, opened an investigation, and informed me that it could take up to 15 days to verify my identity as the purchaser and process the claim- a delay that felt excessive and, frankly, dismissive, as though I were the one suspected of wrongdoing.
This entire situation has been both frustrating and disappointing. While this is my first personal experience with this type of fraud, it’s clear that incidents like this are occurring far too often.
I am especially concerned that Walgreens continues to stock and sell these Vanilla Visa gift cards despite countless reports of similar fraudulent activity- easily found through a simple online search. It is equally troubling that Visa has yet to take decisive, public action to resolve this issue, allowing it to persist at the expense of consumers. In my opinion, Walgreens shares responsibility for continuing to offer a product that exposes its customers to significant financial risk.
No customer should have to endure such a frustrating ordeal or wait weeks to recover their own funds due to a defective, insecure product being knowingly sold.
To fellow consumers- please be cautious. This could just as easily happen to you, if it hasn’t already.

Not enough coverage here. Took too long to help. Also, not sure if the techs have been properly trained.

Absolutely unnecessarily rude. Claimed she gave me a generic charged me name brand, told me the person I “spoke to at blue cross didn’t know what they were talking about” then told me I “didn't know how to listen” when I said I would call in a bit earlier for refills as they don’t keep this medication in stock, and that I “need to find another Walgreens because I’m not keeping that in stock”. She was insulting to me, and insulted the blue cross rep that was trying to help me. Furthermore I am NOT ok with the pharmacy telling me I’m getting something, while the insurance tells me she ran something else, AND the attached paperwork doesn’t coincide with what she says. But when I tried to politely get clarification on both the cost (4x my typical copay for generics) she brushed me off and said that she knew what she was doing and basically insinuated I was an idiot and so was everyone else and just leave

I don’t live in the area of Olympia Fields but my niece had a medical procedure that required me the be in the area . I decided I would run to the nearest Walgreens to pick up a few things.
All of the employees were so helpful, but more importantly than being helpful they were kind , and even comical. I left out of the store with my merchandise in hand a smile on face . I would go back there just for the customer service.

Please listen to me! Do not buy gift cards from this Walgreens. I purchased two $100 gift cards from this store in mid December as a Christmas gifts. When the person tried to activate the gift card on Christmas Day it had a zero balance. I went back to the store on Christmas Day and was told to come back in the morning to get the situation resolved. I came back the next day and the manager checked the register receipt and did find that I had in fact purchased two gift cards but told me I had to take the matter up with corporate. I did just that on December 26 sent in all the necessary documents. Today is March 8th and the matter is still not resolved.

This used to be a good pharmacy. Not anymore. Maybe they need to hire more staff.

Why the wait to get a prescription filled and picked up is always the longest process? I have waited 30+ minutes which is freaking ridiculous

Don’t bother getting your prescriptions filled at this location. They are absolutely rude and lack no sense of courtesy. Terrible customer service and the pharmacist Karen is the worst.

This review is for the pharmacy not the store. Visited the pharmacy today to pick up 1 perscription. Upon telling the pharmacy tech my name she quickly said "we don't have anything for you maybe it's at another location" I received a notification in my app stating the perscription is ready, which I informed the tech. I told her my name again using the phonetic alphabet and she came back with the same response, she asked for my phone number and then found it and stated she typed it in wrong (even after the phonetic spelling). After giving my insurance card she asked me to pull back around and get in line (behind 2 cars) so the insurance can be inputted ( every time I visit here with the same insurance it's never in the system) after waiting behind the 2 cars the pharmacy tech stated I need to come in because they can't find my spouse's information and so I won't "hold up the line" After parking, getting my toddler out of the car, putting on masks and coming in the store the pharmacy tech stated "we'll be right with you" and continue to serve 2 more vehicles. The pharmacist Maria then from behind the computer off to the side called me over and asked about an address from 4 years ago which I had to call my spouse and verify. Maria then went on to say " there are so many different addresses that's why we couldn't find it" finally after receiving my perscription I went to pay with my phone. My fingerprint was not reading right and the tech proceeded to say "her card is not working" to the pharmacist as she walked hurried to close the windows because at this point it was around closing time. They were in a hurry to go home but disregarded my time. They were unprofessional and rude, I never heard a apology for the wait or for the discrepancy in the computer. Needles to say I will be changing my pharmacy.. to anywhere but here.

By far one of the worst Walgreen pharmacys I have ever been to. I was waiting in the drive thru to pick up my moms medicine. There was only one car in front of me and I had waited 9 minutes before it was my turn. When I got to the window the lady put up the closed sign saying it's after 8 when I looked at the clock it was 8:02. I told her I had been waiting and I was the last car she replied she didn't care and I would have to come back tomorrow. I can never understand why it takes these people so long to service folks and then when it's my turn say you're closed after lollygagging in the medicine cabinet. Be forreal just like self checkout they'll find a way to replace your job just wait on it.
