I regularly purchased Petco's cat sand until the recent change in its composition. The sand no longer clumps; litter used by my cats falls apart and remains in the cat boxes, so I can't sift/clean them out. The sand is dustier, almost requiring a face mask to be used when sifting the sand to clean the boxes. The sand used to be scentless, but now has a very overpowering disagreeable scent. The change in cat sand requires me to purchase alternatives, including those lower priced that at Petco.

Extremely disappointed with the lack of basic decency shown. My 3-year-old needed to use the restroom, and we were denied access and told to go outside instead. This is unacceptable and lacks any sense of compassion, especially for a child. Businesses should accommodate such basic human needs or at least handle situations like this with more understanding. I won’t be returning and hope they reevaluate their policies and approach to customer service.

Staff genuinely cares about animals. The reviews of people being upset by staff asking questions about animal setups prior to purchase should be thankful they are asking questions, and just not blinding handing animals out. Industrial sized filter systems allow for more fish to be housed at a time temporarily (petco only provides temporary homes). Those upset by fish questions when trying to purchase fish need to be more mindful and acknowledge its because the staff wants the animals to have the best chance at survival.

Honestly I went in around closing time but I was left speechless. I believed they clean the cages for the rodents and give them proper care. I was wrong I found a dead mouse and the guinea pig looked like it was sick. I don’t know if this all petcos but if you are selling animals atleast the bare minimum you can do is make sure they are clean and properly cared for.

I’ve been bringing my dog to Petco - Palatine grooming salon and store for years. The last two grooming appointments were a complete disaster. What’s worse is the rude and obnoxious cashier, Alicia, wouldn’t let me leave. Who does that??? I didn’t have time for her to figure out the bill since I paid in full last time and tipped even though the groomer didn’t trim even one nail (the main reason I bring my dog in for grooming). I’m not sure she did anything, really. She said a bunch of people quit, they’re understaffed and she was freaking out. I said “it’s ok.” Paid upfront and left. So this time, I said I’ll just pay and go because I have to get back to work and she said no and wouldn’t give the cashier whose counter I was at the invoice and stood there clicking around for what felt like an eternity. I’ve never seen anything like this. I’m trying to pay and she says no. I knew if I leave she can call the police and say I did not pay and I was trying to do just that so I can leave. I’m not going to be late for a conference call and jeopardize my job over a 20 percent refund on fifty something dollars, come on now. I said I’ll handle next time and she said no, I’m figuring this out now. I’ve never felt like a hostage at a store. Obviously “hostage” is a strong word but when you can’t leave and you really have to, that is how it starts to feel. It was absolutely unreal, the way she spoke to me, the way she treated me. I’m guessing I’m old enough to be her Mom… the way I was raised, I wouldn’t treat anyone like that but especially someone who is older. I hope she enjoyed her little power trip and I hope she gets fired (though I doubt it). The grooming salon needs to get their… sh.. stuff together.

I can't believe they still stock betta fish in tiny cups. At least pet supplies plus has them in longer containers so they can swim. There was one with terrible fin rot. Asked the fish guy there if he'd give to me for free or at a discount, and he said sorry, they are not allowed to do that, even though they had had done this for me before a few years prior. Who is going to pay $21 for a bland fish with severe fin rot? Funny because with that discounted betta, I was always going to buy an Amazon sword plant and 6 glowfish. I could have taken that sick fish off their hands and petco would have gotten $40 from me. Win/win. Petco/manager would rather not make a sale and let the poor thing die. Stupid, never coming back here.
