I brought my daughter to swim this weekend while visiting relatives, and was disappointed by the state of the facility. The pool water was cloudy, the air was quite cold (very atypical for indoor water parks), and the pool floor and deck were both dirty and slimy. The locker room also did not appear to have been cleaned recently. Such a nice looking aquatic facility, so we were very sad that it does not seem to be well kept. Also disappointed that there were no concessions available.

Me and my friends love this YMCA, we come here all the time. We swim, play basketball, sometimes go to the weight room as well. We enjoy it immensely whether we are starting our time in the gym or ending it with some ping pong. I only have one problem which is why I took away a star. The last couple times I have been there the vending machines were not working. We are fine with bringing our waters but its just nicer to have the machines.

Its got a lot of good stuff for lifting, only issue is the weight room is kinda dirty and unorganized. Clean it up and get everything organized and its 5 stars.

If a 0 rating was an option, that is what I would rate the Illinois Valley YMCA in Peru. When it comes to open facility hours, this facility clearly caters to teenage and grown men. The CEO Chris will not allow my daughter to practice her sport, claiming it is dangerous, during open gym hours. She takes up very little square footage, and as long as one respects her personal space, it would not be a problem. It is probably a lot safer than dodging basketballs in that facility. Plus, she is covered under sport insurance. He said the vast majority (mainly teenage and grown men) want to use the gym for basketball, so it seems nobody else is allowed to use it for any other purpose. The open hours are afterschool hours, and the website says they end at 6pm on certain days, but I guess they STILL get to take over the whole gym. The CEO did say that the racquetball courts were an option but that racquetball players had the right to remove her and take precedence, even if she is there first and has waited for availability. The majority of racquetball players appear to be grown men, too. I am not going to spend 50 minutes of roundtrip driving time only to have my daughter not be able to use the facility, so we will never become full members. Who in their right mind would pay for things they cannot use? This, in my opinion, feels very sexist and discriminatory. My young daughter has resorted to practicing in cold, rain, and wind. I feel I should discontinue the private tumbling lessons I have been paying for at the YMCA to supplement their sport. However, the coaches in that department have nothing to do with this. And my son will not be participating in the next Healthy Kids Day as he did a demonstration last year to promote the YMCA. I'll be sure to share my experience with others.

This place has to by far be one of the most disgusting facilities I have ever been in. Especially with a pandemic still occurring. The mirrors seriously look like they haven’t seen windex in over three years. It’s flat out disgusting. No supervisor ever walks back by the free weight area. It’s says children are to be accompanied by an adult but all you see is then running around playing tag and hiding under the equipment. By far one of the easiest top pathetic run places I have ever been to in my life. Selfish employees that only keep the front lobby clean to benefit themselves just for you to go workout and find a pile of dust under the machine that’s been there prior to Covid-19. Not to mention how freezing cold it can be some days in the winder. I picked up some dumbbells one day after waking into what felt like a freezer the dumbbells were so cold I could feel it on my hand. Don’t worry the keep it warm up front through.

Wow what an impressive YMCA with a huge fitness room as well as a weight lifting area with platforms. Large sport room for cycling classes, stretching, etc. Huge pool area with an eight lane pool as well as a large recreational pool area for kids. Very nice locker rooms, two male, two females and family as well. Concessions, racquetball, steam room, and skateboard area outside of facility. Some of the equipment is dated, but they were replacing with several new machine during our visit. An Awesome Y.

When you get a phone call asking prices for adults and children, perhaps they should be told that the kids area is only open to non members on Friday and Saturday, so we don't go and the kids area is closed. Spent $25.00 to go in the pool.

unless you’re going to workout in the winter don’t bother. They have no AC on, bolted windows shut so that you cannot open them, and along with this, they took the electrical box out from a number of fans. Which means 0 airflow which feels like you’re working out in a 90 degree plus gym

My daughter first swimming lesson was today I had the most horrific experience ! She was drowning in front one coach and one supervisor and the life guard no one was doing nothing all the parents that were watching were yelling to the coach to help her out but they were not doing anything I almost jumped to get her my self but they finally herd us . This Is not the place to bring you’re kids please don’t put you’re trust in these people I sure will never bring her here again .

We were just at the Peru YMCA swimming in the water park area and I have to say, that was the worst staff I have ever come across in my life. One teen lifeguard even had the nerve to raise his voice at my 2 year old! I will definitely never be back to this place again. We even left early. All of those kids need an attitude check!

There are a few very nice gym's in the Illinois valley and their all very good places and I have joined them all. However the YMCA has a family discount and I was able to add my dad to are account for free so he could be more social and also start to workout and better his health. My dad age 75 goes 5 times a week now and has conquered many recent battles in his life. He has even reconnected with old buddy's at the YMCA. It's a big place with tons of different things to do. My favorite 3 are weights, cardio, wellness pool and hot tub. If it wasn't for the YMCA my dad would not be working out. He loves the indoor track and machines. I am greatfull that they have such a great facility for all of us to continue on that healthy path. Thank you

What ba beautiful. facility but of course there is but . We paid the sixty dollars a month. Then brought the grandkids a week later to go swimming. Come to find out they get three hrs swim time in a twenty by twenty nine foot pool. As I look at the beautiful and fun looking slides. The therapy pool that my wife needs on a regular basis. Almost always closed. When I asked about the future of the place I was told there there are plenty of other things to do. You tell me what kids ten and under want to do racquet ball or dumbbells. I could go on but. The point is what a beautiful facility with nothing to offer the average family
