About William Watson Hotel

The William Watson Hotel is a quaint, gorgeous, and unique historic hotel right on the square, directly across from the Pike County Courthouse. Its architecture and history are awesome, and it has been renovated beautifully. The decor is very good and unique, featuring charming details like brick walls and headboards made from old doors. Many find it an absolutely pleasurable, cozy, and very nice place to stay. It is a quirky establishment, described as a sort of mix between a B&B and a hotel, and is a small independent business. The staff are fantastic and very friendly. While there is nobody on-site during the night, guests can phone for assistance and a staff member is very fast showing up. The location is highly praised for its walkability; it is right on the square, within walking distance to everything needed, including good restaurants and a cafe for a yummy hot breakfast. It is five miles from the interstate but considered worth the diversion. Rooms are overall clean, with clean bathrooms, fresh towels, and clean showers that work well. They are equipped with a TV, microwave, and mini fridge, and provide toiletries. However, some maintenance and safety issues are noted. Some rooms, particularly the cheapest option, have no windows. There can be problems with heating, and some A/C units were found to be very moldy. The bedroom doors have no deadbolt, which is seen as a safety issue, and some doors are awkward to close. The building has steps to enter and narrow stairs with no elevator, making it not handicap accessible. The included continental breakfast is basic, consisting of yogurt, granola bars, cereal, sometimes OJ, and coffee. Some guests feel it is insufficient and opt to walk to nearby cafes. While the price is generally considered good, one guest reported an unexpected extra charge when booking through a third-party site. Most guests highly recommend the hotel for its historic charm and location, with many stating they will be back again.
