Hillcrest = Kill-crest un passionate uncaring, Veterinarian clinic that is in business. I've been doing business with you as a second generation customer for 45 years. How dare you be short-staffed on 01/26/2024, and their refusal to see my mother-in-law's German Shepherd, which passed away so that animals blood is on your hands. I recommend anyone that is doing business with you remove their animals from your care and seek a reputable veterinarian clinic. I will no longer be doing business with your establishment, and I will let everyone I know and reach out to as well not to do business with you as well. I will scream it from a mountain top, if I have to. Whatever happened ownership changed or procedures or policies changed you guys have spiraled out of control. If I could give you zero or a negative rating I would.

Worst place to take your animals. My sister and I both called to find out the price of spay/neutering kittens that I found. We were told $80 each, that I needed to put down a deposit and schedule a wellness check to make sure they are up to date on vaccines and healthy enough for the spay/neuter. We both ask SPECIFICALLY for the price of the spay/neuter to compare to other vets since these are found kittens and we wanted to do the right thing. Well we had they spayed and neutered, went to pick them up and given a $600 bill....for 2 small 4 lbs kittens. When we both told the staff about receiving information stating the price was $80 per kitten, the staff because rude, dug their heels in, and said that our information was wrong. They are not will to offer any sort of compensation or work with us since this is THEIR mistake. If feel we were scammed and baited and switched and now this vets office expects us to sweep it under the rug and pay this astronomical bill when we were told a different price. Avoid this vet office at all cost if you don't want to be scammed.

We have been with Hillcrest Animal Hospital for over 45 years now. They have always been good to us, and good to our pets. It's wonderful that now they have appointments. I would recommend Hillcrest to anyone new to Rockford who is looking for a veterinarian clinic that's been proven time after time to be forthcoming with their costs, and which honestly cares about the well-being and comfort of both the pets and their humans.

Absolutely stunned. That's all I can say. I was left speechless (literally and rare) after the receptionist responded that they no longer accepted "those" accounts... this is after she was willing to take MY appt until I mentioned that the dogs were my sisters(who requires Assistance)and I was informed that Hillcrest no longer accepted "those" clients. "Those"accounts are ARC clients that mind you pay full price(not free) and Hillcrest is guaranteed a payment. Even after informing her that I would be the person on account and responsible for paying, I was still told that they no longer accept "those" accounts. I was appalled needless to say. Wow. God forbid that anyone involved at Hillcrest has a child or family member that requires such a phenomenal service that the ARC provides. Fortunately we were able to schedule an appt with the animal clinic of Rockford and they were absolutely willing to accept "those" clients. Disgusted as my family went to Hillcrest in the 80's-early 2000s.

I always appreciate the extra help I get when bringing our dogs to Hillcrest. Their willingness to come and get my dogs so I don't have to try and walk is such a blessing. Thank you for all your help!!!

If you want your pet well taken care of this is the place to be. They are very busy so scheduling for routine checkups might take awhile it is well worth the wait. My little dog Jake made it to 21 years in their care. .My dog Mable is experiencing some old age issues and they have been most helpful in helping Mable and I through this period. The staff and the Doctors are Great.

Our dog reacted to his annual vaccinations and got very sick. We were asked for a stool sample during his annual exam. Since he got sick we had him on a bland diet per the Dr's direction. He did not p*** until Wednesday (since Friday). I raced the sample to the vet prior to them closing @ 6pm. I was there @ 5:40pm (no other clients were in the room; 3 people behind the counter. I was told that it takes 20 minutes & they couldn't take it. They could send it to a private lab for 2x the cost. I asked if they could take it & refrigerate it & run it in the a.m. & was told no. I let them know that it was very difficult to get the sample. Again was told no. I was NOT going to pay twice the price. I drove clear across town for nothing! We will not go back to Hillcrest.

UPDATE: Lynn from management reached out to me within 48hrs of this review being posted. I was blown away by the level of professionalism and empathy she displayed as she listened to my side of the story intently. She ensured me that the issues with staff would be addressed and wished my family nothing but the best in our treatment journey. Though we have decided to take our dog elsewhere, Hillcrest has definitely regained some of my respect after this. Thank you, Lynn. You're amazing at your job. My husband and I have been patients of Hillcrest for about 6 months and have taken our dog (Sam, Mastiff, 4 years old) there ever since we adopted him from the pound. At first, I was blown away with how accepting they were of my large animal. Many vet offices in the past have shown distaste for large breeds, but Hillcrest staff met us with open arms. From this experience alone, I assumed we would be taking Sam here for the entirety of his life. It was at the end of February when we were informed that Sam had tested positive for heartworms after some routine blood tests. We were of course heartbroken as Hillcrest explained to us that there were treatment options available, but it was a very critical and time sensitive situation. Not to mention expensive ($2,000). Still, we decided to move forward with treatment because we love our dog and couldn't bare to not even give him a chance. Since making this decision to move forward with treatment, we have been met with nothing more than poor communication and apathy toward our situation. After going so far as to explain to us how TIME SENSITIVE this situation is, they were the ones who didn't call, didn't communicate with each other, entered wrong dates in their system, and ultimately threw off the whole treatment procedure. When I called to discuss this situation, I was greeted by a very rude female receptionist with a very gruff voice who literally blamed me for the fact that she had me on hold scrambling for 20 minutes to figure out what was going on. I requested a call directly from the doctor, but never received it. And they really expected me to show up and pay them two grand AND trust them with my dog's life after that? I don't think so. Never again, Hillcrest.

You're response is funny because I was never referred anyplace. I was not given a reason I was just told they would not see my dog because I had my records fax to another vet. Don't worry I found a caring vet at Dogwood Animal Clinic on Milford. I will make sure I tell everyone I know about the way I was treated at Hillcrest.

Great staff. Always respond to messages when left. Never an issue. I drive my dogs over a hour just to see Dr. Long and will continue to do so. Always a great experience.

I thought I found a great vet, but after my experience today their true colors of empathy and care were shown. Between my friend and I, Hillcrest sees 8 of our pets, not to mention our rescue pets. I have a senior cat (17 yrs. old) who has been seeing my vet in Algonquin for some time. I recently moved to Rockford and started my pets with Hillcrest, but kept Tigger at Algonquin vet care due to his needs. Well, the painful decision has come recommended by Tigger's primary vet to let him go and end his suffering. Not wanting to put Tigger through an hour drive in the car on a cold and rainy day, I called Hillcrest about ending his suffering and to see if I could set up a time. I planned to have Tigger's primary vet contact Hillcrest so they could understand the need of the euthanasia request; but I didn't get that far. Once I explained what I needed and what was going on with Tigger, they quickly told me that because Tigger hasn't been seen at Hillcrest and that they were not taking a new pets, I would have to wait two weeks before he could be seen. I of course interrupted and repeated myself about him having a regular vet and what was needed and trying to spare Tigger additional stress and discomfort. Well, the answe was still no! Hillcrest is good as long as your pets are healthy. but God help you if you need them in a crisis. Needless to say, I will be pulling all 8 pets and will not be taking any of my rescues there any longer. Empathy makes a difference!

I have brought 6 different pets here over the years. Up until Monday 4-20-2020 I would have recommended them and given 5 stars. My dog was going downhill over the weekend. I called Monday morning to try and get him in to be put down and end his suffering. I was told on the phone that because they couldn't find him in their system, they couldn't do it as they weren't taking new clients. This dog had his first wellness visit there, his neuter surgery, and another few visits as well! Thanks for being heartless and compassionless Hillcrest. I'm glad I was able to find a vet clinic that understood the situation and helped out, unlike you.

We've had excellent care for our 4 dogs. They've changed to all appointments like most other vets so wait times now is minutes. Their prices have been fair compared to other vets in the area.

I've always used Hillcrest for my pets, they have great staff and I believe they try to be informative and listen. However they have grown over the years and have a very LG. Clientele now. There are times I feel I'm not totally heard. Thank you

I actually love Hillcrest. The reason I'm giving them only 3 stars is based on the change to "by appointment" and the elimination of Saturday hours. Had I been able to bring my dog in this past Saturday, he could have been spared 3 1/2 more days of misery plus the anxiety for our family. While it ended up OK, it hardly seems right that an issue that arose on Friday night couldn't be resolved until late afternoon the following Tuesday! When I got there the waiting room was totally empty. Exam rooms empty too. Really hate that I now feel I must consider finding a different vet practice for my dog. Friends who also take their pets here are telling me they feel the same way.
