The Rockford Art Museum boasts a permanent collection of over 2,000 pieces of modern and contemporary American art, spanning the 19th and 20th centuries. The museum's focus remains on regional art, with a strong emphasis on Illinois artists. The mission is to foster creativity and build community through the visual arts. Visitors consistently praise the museum as one of the best free experiences in Rockford. The art exhibits are great and frequently changing, and the docent office and lobby area are described as charming. The museum offers a variety of greeting cards, books, and a "library" section for browsing. Reviewers highlight the friendly and welcoming staff, as well as the well-maintained space. Many visitors are impressed by the museum, often bringing family members from out of town to enjoy the diverse and engaging exhibitions, which are almost always free. The museum provides a lovely experience, with soooo many activities to keep the brain occupied.
Great Rockford asset. I wish there would have been a couple more classics there.

We came here after going to Discovery. Just to see how much it was. It was free. So we stopped and seen some art. The first picture is my favorite art in the entire place.

Every time we go, we are impressed. We have brought family members from all over the States, and we all have always enjoyed our time. Neat exhibitions that are changed quite regularly and are almost always free, connections to local artists and movements, and a well-maintained space.
