The downtown Y is great! It has a ton of group classes and enough machines to accommodate everyone. There are both cold and warm pools to swim in. The kids care is newly renovated and huge. The staff are all friendly and welcoming.

Love the people that gather here in the morning hours. Friends, neighbors and family find a common community at the YMCA.

Took my daughter for a swim and the life guard was, what I felt like attacking us. Because swim lessons were going on. If you even put your feet on the side that is designated for swim lessons you get yelled at. Everything we did we were told we cant do that. It felt very personal.

They need to monitor the womens locker room better because people will literally steal out of your purse if you set it down for two seconds

Nice gym. However, there have been two separate occasions I have come in the evening and there is a child 5 years old or under running around in the cardio room. This is definitely a safety hazard! I know it's the parents responsibility but if the parent doesn't have enough common sense a staff member should at least do a round around the gym every so often to address any safety concerns.

I began going here as a child and now I am bringing my children here. I am glad to know that we have a place like this in our community

Very clean and nice people. It's just too crowded for exercising. They opened a new exercising building, I haven't visited it as of yet. But the Puri YMCA is excellent for overnight exercising if you don't like crowded places, for an extra $10 a month.

New expansion is great. However, half of the new treadmills are broken, they got rid of some great machines, they need more plates, and I dislike the new EGYM equipment.

Very nice but almost every time I go there is swim lessons and aerobics happening and we can’t go back till 6 which leaves you to 3 hours which is not that long. But overall it’s a great place to go

It's a great place to get your workout in. Awesome staff. Easyto talk to and I love the groups. Easy access class schedules, although I'm not crazy about the zoom classes. I forget that I signed up and then I forget to log in for class.

Fell and broke my heel and talus 11/29 from near the top. The mats as you can see in the photo do not cover the whole floor so my foot landed halfway on the mat. They don’t have enough staff to supervise everyone. There are also no reminders on the wall to remind you to clip in. Auto-belays are notorious for people forgetting to clip in. The belay gates need to be larger to prevent people bypassing them. Many gyms have gotten rid of auto-belays for safety and insurance reasons. Safety is not emphasized enough here by the staff. One staff member recommended a route that eventually I fell and hurt myself on. My injury is considered life altering. 6 months later and I am still in pain and not walking correctly. I could have easily died from this fall. Kids are babied here but adults are on their own. Your waiver covers the whole facility but not enough emphasis is placed on the dangers of rock climbing specifically. Sponsored by an injury medical group and hospital where I had my surgery. When I visited the Janesville YMCA I was told by an employee that they got rid of rock climbing because someone broke their neck. The YMCA needs to invest more in climber safety and warnings. It is a shame that the only rock climbing place in Rockford couldn’t have been just a little safer. This sport is simply not worth the risk.
