About Rolling Meadows Park District: Nelson Sports Complex
The Nelson Sports Complex offers an ice skating rink, an Olympic-size swimming pool, a fitness center, and a gymnastics center. It provides hockey and skating lessons for all ages and various leagues. The fitness center has weight machines, cardiovascular equipment, and dumbbells, with supervised staff and locker room showers. The gymnastics center offers classes for different age groups and skill levels. The ice rink is a full sheet, but the rental skates can be poor and are not sanitized between uses. The locker rooms for the rink are upstairs, requiring people to go up and down in full gear, which is challenging. These small locker rooms have no bathrooms or showers and need updating. The ice condition is just okay. There is no food or bar, and spectators cannot see the scoreboard well.
Ice rink is nice but the skates leave a lot to be desired. My skates had zero edge and wouldn't allow me to turn at all. Plus they do not spray the shoes between users. They ask you to tuck in the laces and immediately place them back on the shelves.
