I have been going to MEC in Salem for several years and wouldn't go anywhere else. The doctors and staff go above and beyond for excellent care.

One if the nurses were very rude to my 4 year old son. He is autistic so something as simple as an eye exam can seem like torture to him making it harder for him to Cooperate

Refuse to give prescription numbers over phone, by text, by email. They force you to come in to get a copy of what you have already paid for. Never see you at your appt. time. You will have to wait.

Update: I got a response to this review, but no one has been intouch otherwise.. - June 3 2023---I love the doctor, but the other services were terrible.. My glasses did not fit whatsoever - too narrow and the arms were too short. When I asked about it I was told they could "bend" them to fit. She told me that after I wear them longer they should loosen up and fit better. (You're glasses shouldn't have to be warped to fit). I tried to wear them and they kept falling off. I called the next day and she told me to go to a different office to have them bend them in place. The other office was closed. So, I got a second opinion from Walmart who told me non of that made sense and they were clearly too small and needed to be refunded. I asked my insurance, and they do accept refunds. I told Marion Eye Center I was completely unhappy and they told they don't allow refunds and that I'd have to talk to their supervisor in person at a different date..Days before, during my appointment, I asked if it was possible to use my old frames and put my new prescription in them and if I could later add the non-glare coating - they said this wasn't possible..I asked Walmart and it definitely is..Terrible service from start to finish and a waste of money..*in the photo you can see the arch of the arm does not fit with my ear.

I absolutely love the doc! But the office staff are unorganized, unmotivated, and at times rude. They couldn't be bothered to call when my son's glasses came in. I had to call them. Then we had to get my daughters prescription adjusted because they were alittle off. No big deal. But 2 months later. I call and they don't know where her glasses are. Then they found them, but wait they aren't the new glasses. They are her pair that weren't right and they don't know when her glasses with the right prescription is. Proof positive that a staffing is important and having the wrong staff will sink your buisness!! I wouldn't recommend going here unless you only need a prescription written and go somewhere else for glasses or contacts!

With as much as I absolutely love Dr Brasel, on my last visit, about 6 months ago, I complained of worsening vision and double vision. Upon describing my double vision, she told me that a person with only one eye (I have a prosthetic eye on the left) can’t have double vision like I’m described. About 4 months later, my regular physician ordered an MRI for severe headaches and discovered a tumor on my right optic nerve and Intracranial HTN, both of which would have been caught by dilation. The National Eye Institute recommends yearly eye dilation for those 60 or older or at age 40 if at high risk for glaucoma; my left eye was removed at 17 because it had glaucoma and was blind. I am currently 48 years old. If my eye had been dilated as recommended, this tumor would have been caught sooner. If I had not gotten severe headaches from the Intracranial HTN, it could have been another 8 months before these problems were found, which can cause permanent vision damage and/or blindness. Only thing I can say is, if a patient complains about something, no matter how absurd it may seem, follow through with checking it out. You don’t pay the bill or the insurance premiums.

I went to Marion Eye Center because of a problem I was having. My vision was changing and my glasses no longer worked, so they had me come in for an exam and ordered me a new pair of distance glasses. Over the next couple of months my vision continued to decline andI couldn’t see out of my new glasses anymore. Now I also had issues with light sensitivity; so after multiple calls to their office, they said I should get testing from my primary care doctor to check my blood sugar to see if that was the issue. It was normal, so then I was asked to come in for a dilated exam to make sure everything was OK. The doctor that examined me couldn’t find anything to account for the vision changes, other than cataracts, and he told me to make an appointment to come in for a cataract evaluation. He said that removing the cataracts would be the only thing I could do to see if it helped. The morning of my appointment I woke up sick and had to cancel. The girl at the desk told me to call back when I felt better and she would reschedule the appointment. I asked her to remind me what the type of that type of exam was called so I could let them know when I called back to reschedule. She said oh, you’re supposed to come back for a vision exam so you can get a new prescription for glasses. I told her the doctor said I needed a cataract evaluation, not new glasses, and she said, well, you were already here for a dilated exam and I’m just reading what the doctor wrote in his notes. I told her that’s not what the doctor told me and also that my insurance wouldn’t pay for new glasses so soon and she said well, you can pay out of pocket! I told her to cancel my appointment and to take me off of their callback list. Unreal!
