I contacted The Structural Shop regarding an issue with a large support beam in our house. After patiently listening to me explain my concern over the phone, Eric asked me to email a few photos so he could have a (remote) look. A couple minutes after hitting send, Eric called me back and explained that he did not think there was a problem and did not feel right about charging me to come out and evaluate the beam. What's more, Eric took the time to explain -- in quite a bit of detail -- what was going on with the beam. Eric's explanation was so detailed that he actually refreshed my memory of concepts that I had studied in engineering school 15 years ago. Comparatively, Eric's explanation contained more detail and more logic than another structural engineer's opinion that was rendered in person about a year prior. Eric also suggested a couple ideas that I might try to extend the longevity of this beam. The point here is NOT that you can get free ideas from The Structural Shop as The Structural Shop could not afford to keep its doors open if that was its practice. Rather, the point is that The Structural Shop is trustworthy and knowledgeable. Period. Would recommend to anyone.
