If there was a way to give no stars I would. I tried to adopt a lovable beagle who has been sitting at the adoption center for months and I was told I was the only person to show any interest in cute little Loretta. The sole reason I was denied was because my 8 month old puppy has not been fixed. I procesed to call the adoption center to ask why I was denided and was informed by the receptionist that she was just as surprised as I was. As both my current dog and the adoptable dog got along great then they met and that Loretta had already been fixed. I was givin the number to the help save pets center to pleaded my case this is where I met the rudest woman I have ever delt with. Not only was I accused of being an irresponsible pet owner for not haveing my dog fixed I was also lied to about the reason for my denile of my application. She said the reason why I denied was beacuse I wasn’t truthful about the current conditions of my dog even tho I wrote out that he was still intached and was still just to young to be fixed. I think the organization of help save pets is a joke. Apparently they would much rather have dogs and cats suffer in small cages surrounded by others rather than be in a happy loveing home.

We went here to try to find a kitten or cat to adopt. Our 19 year old cat passed away just last month (and her sister two years ago), and we really wanted to find another kitty to give a fur-ever home to. My little boy and I fell in love with a beautiful kitten named Sabine. She was a perfect fit for us and was super sweet and playful. The first employee told us that she could tell this kitten would be getting a lot of love if we adopted her. We decided to fill out the adoption papers. In comes ANITA. She was THE most ignorant, miserable, heartless person that I’ve ever encountered. She proceeds to tell us that, since we didn’t have complete vet records for our previous cats, we’d be denied the adoption. I explained that we missed a few vet visits and innoculations because my husband was out of work and we couldn’t afford it at that time. However, both of our cats had lived long happy lives (again, 17 and 19 years old), and we’d be sure to give this kitten all of the medical care she needs. She says, “I’ll check, but I DOUBT it will happen.” I told her that she could call my old vet and find out that my previous cats were indeed cared for. She didn’t want to hear it. She left out of the room, came back 2 minutes later, and told us it wasn’t happening. She wasn’t the least bit caring or unapologetic, as the tears rolled down the face of my nine-year-old who wanted nothing more but to bring this kitten home to love and care for. I even asked to speak to the person she “checked with”, which she denied me. We walked out in tears, and it was an awful experience. Anita, you need to learn what compassion is. Not only has my son recently lost a friend and companion in our old cat, but he also lost out again today on a potential companion in Sabine and it broke his heart. SHAME ON YOU for be so insensitive and denying that kitten a good, loving home.

If I could give this shady place no stars, I would have! I put an application in for a kitten that was being housed at the Oswego Animal Hospital. The girl that took my application informed me that I was the only one who had applied for that kitten. When I was contacted later that day by the volunteer from Help Save Pets, she told me that the application was initially submitted for the cat that I requested then resubmitted for a different cat (because all kittens are the same, right??!). I was NOT interested in adopting the other pet and the request was made on my behalf and without my permission! She told me that someone else had already been approved for the original kitten (which is not what I was told at the animal hospital). It left me wondering who was being dishonest...Also, the "donation" that they require to adopt the pets is well above the adoption fees that similar shelters in the area request. Proving that contrary to their application form which states that they are not in this business to make money, they are clearly in it for more reasons than to "Help Save Pets".Bottom line, stay away from this shady shelter!

We came here about a year ago looking to adopt a friend for our cat. We were able to meet with some of the adoptable cats (siblings) together to see how they might interact with other animals. By the time we chose to adopt our second cat, she had been moved to the Channahon HSP but the staff in both locations were great. Would recommend.
