We rent from budget at least twice a year when we travel to Orlando and have never had any issues, but we did not have a good experience at our local Budget in Springfield, IL.We were due to return the rental at 6PM. We arrived on time to return, but there was a long line. We finally got up to the counter at 6:22 and returned the car. Despite Budget’s website mentioning a 29 minute grace period for rental car returns, we noticed we were charged an extra hour on our rental, which was almost the total of adding a whole extra day. If we genuinely had returned the car late I could understand, but we were in line waiting for them to assist us. Their failure to adequately staff the rental counter is not our fault.I called Budget customer service and was able to get the issue resolved, but it was a frustrating experience working with Budget in Springfield. I hope we never need to rent from them again.

Bad tire after being told it was fine, over charged for tolls. Made me an hour late to my destination.

This is a terrible Budget rental location. This location embodies all that is why business travelers dread coming to small towns with no choice but to rent a car. The car was dirty, sticky, and smoky but I did not have time to wait for a different car. I really enjoyed my suitcase and clothes smelling like smoke my entire trip. While I was driving the casing on the side view mirror flew off and I was lucky enough to retrieve it. When I returned the car I asked if I would be charged for the mirror casing and complained about the state of the car, the person working at the counter said she could not help me with any of that. She could not answer questions about it. She could offer that I could call on Wednesday at 1:00 to talk to the manager, Mike Cochran, and I had to ask several times for her to give me a generic email address I could send my question/complaint to. She literally called Mike in front of me to get that email address because she didn’t know it and didn’t have access to it. Why didn’t she address the question with Mike at that time? So now I get to schedule a 1:00 call on Wednesday to hopefully catch Mike as well as stalk my credit card statement to ensure they don’t charge me.

The car was easy to rent online. The people were friendly at the drop off and pick-up location. There was only one person working at the airport, so it took awhile to get the car.

Notorious for hidden, surprise charges. I thought it was just me but have since talked to several people who were charged significantly more than their agreement. Not talking about refilling fuel here, talking about charging a LOT more saying they had it an extra day, etc. Mine was over $100 more than what we agreed to. Decent amount of locations, but I've had much better experience with their competitors. Budget lures you in with a little cheaper quote, then charges you more.

This business is closed and there's no place to drop off a car even though the budget location in Chicago rented the car to me without knowing this. A complete joke and level of stupidity.

Didn’t have car we reserved. Car they gave us filled with chik-fil-a and other trash. Rented car seats for kids and cross country drive, lady behind counter told us they don’t rent car seats despite us being able to reserve them online. Asked to call manager, who said they absolutely have car seats. Now their one employee was helping other customers while my two kids and wife are sitting outside. Finally was able to go get the car seats that were there all along. When I expressed to the manager we were having a bad experience, he literally said “you are having a bad experience because you want to have a bad experience.” Never mind they car we got wasn’t the one we reserved, was filthy (no employees cleaning cars that day), and having to deal with an untrained employee and a long wait. Nice job, BUDGET! Never again.

Rented vehicle on 6/9/22. Check out was convenient and quick. Vehicle smelled strongly of air freshener and after a day smells like smoke. Windshield has a small but noticible crack. No windshield washing fluid. Add oil warning on dash. Vehicle is almost 20k overdue for oil change per sticker on windshield. Front tires are down to the wear strips. Still gonna drive the wheels off it. Was gonna call but why waste my breath. It’s easier to roast them in a review.

One employee to do everything for two car rental agencies including clean cars. I felt so bad for the young lady who was doing the best she could to do 4 jobs at once. She did a 5 star job but the business deserves the 1.

Reserved car, confirmed by Budget. Paid Uber driver $20 to go get my car. No car available for days! Terrible system! Would not recommend!

I don't believe that the company handled the situation that arose in a sufficient manner, which in turn used up what little time I had available in my trip. I also do not feel that I received adequate product for my reservation request or price paid. Ill prepared and the quality of products seen Had far more negatives than positives just by walking by them trying to locate the one assigned to me.
