Just wanted something close to the hospital, and this was right across the street. Wasn’t expecting much, so I was pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and condition. Staff was very friendly and helpful with our questions. Would definitely stay here if I had to return.Rooms: Rooms are average size and clean.Nearby activities: Not far from the Lincoln Library.Walkability: Walking distance (right across the street) to/from St Johns.

Satisfactory rooms for a overnight stay, clean beds and bathroom, service was over the top. Continental breakfast was fresh and filling.

the place was nice,+in a prime spot if you're visiting a number of hospitals in that area.. Best sleep I've had in a long while, no doors slamming, no elevator doors, or people in hall. No noise from outside streets. Very happy with stay.

This hotel is a budget travelers dream come true! I can't say what I paid for it, but you get so much bang for your buck. The lobby was inviting, and they had a pretty good spread for breakfast, including egg casserole, sausage, yogurt, blueberry muffins, hard boiled eggs, coffee, tea, juice and milk. The hallways were well maintained, and even the stairwells were carpeted! The room was clean and spacious and had a refrigerator/microwave combo in it. In addition, the staff was very responsive to my requests. The only drawbacks are that the shower drain was kind of slow and there was no pool. Other than that, it exceeded my expectations. Book with confidence!

Check in and the front desk clerk acted like we were inconvenience and was quite short. Get to the room rooms are fairly clean and then within 10 minutes I have to start killing roaches crawling on the walls. Had to ask for extra towels because we were staying there for a medical procedure that required to showers and was huffed past to go get the extra. However the lovely lady in the morning was very nice very friendly very.

Wonderful hotel inside, beautiful room, quiet room, extremely clean, comfortable. Nice and helpful staff. The neighborhood not so good. Many individuals on corners with signs asking for $$$. I stayed 4 days and saw this each and every time I left. Made me uneasy with them right on the other side of the fence where I parked.

The carpenter street hotel was clean but I was not happy with their service. Their breakfast was not that good and I was disappointed.

I STRONGLY ADVISE DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL (CARPENTER STREET HOTEL)!!!!!! Our experience was AWFUL!!! When we initially checked in with Vicky, the gm/owner told us that we had to pay an extra $150 for being Illinois residents. This is a lie and nowhere on their website says this. She made it all up to get extra money. We disputed it and she "waived" the $150 fee. First red flag. The room we were put in was on the 3rd floor. It was dirty and the shower curtain was moldy. The sheets looked already slept in. Vicky the owner put us in it (which was most likely unbeknownst to her), a secret hang out room of her head housekeeper (Brittney), used for ducking out during shifts, opioids, having friends hang out or staying nights for free, ect.. We were staying for at least a few weeks. Brittney was angry over this and conspired to make our stay as uncomfortable and inconvenient as possible. We began to notice abnormally loud and purposeful slamming of doors next to us over and over again. Banging noises on purpose in the room next door even at night. There were laundry machines on the other end of our room and Brittney ran them for 8 hours straight to create noise. Those machines are for guest use. We witnessed her and another housekeeper laughing and finding humor in running the machines for that long on purpose. Main employees involved: Willie, who works front desk/housekeeping, a middle aged male housekeeper and whoever else Brittney can influence to follow her schemes. So we decided to change to the first floor, but this did not defuse the situation. The same nuisances continued. They would go in a room directly above ours and purposely stomp on the floor day or night. Brittney has access to all rooms and will always know which room we're in. We changed our room one more time on the 3rd floor but a different one from the previous. BE WARNED......... THIS STAFF WILL GO INTO GUESTS' ROOMS to search what they can steal. This can also be potentially UNSAFE!!! There are many unsuspecting guest who have no clue. They tried it with our room. A housekeeper sent by Brittney came to our door because they thought we were gone and she sneakily tried to open our door. Brittney was not far behind her. It was a set up. They didn't realize we were watching everything through the peep hole. I held the door handle then she realized we were there so she lied on the spot and said she wanted to collect sheets. I told her I didn't request anything and she hurried away out of sight. Willie would use profanity through the hallways being extra loud, f-bombs and all, not caring if guest hear him. His disrespectful attitude definitely match the morale of this hotel.Brittney is the head housekeeper. THIS IS VERY BAD!!! She's very sneaky and conniving and cannot be trusted. What was done to us was not the first time. Vicky, THE GM/OWNER IS AWFUL!!!!!! She told us at the last minute that she had no more rooms available, but at that point we didn't want to stay anymore. They were trying to gas-light us and wanted to provoke us. When you experience what we had there is no one to resolve anything. There is no corporate to contact because the carpenter is a privately owned business. I do not want this to happen to anyone else. DO NOT SPEND A DIME HERE!!!!! This establishment does not deserve your money. They do not appreciate quiet and respectful paying guest.THESE PEOPLE ARE TOXIC AND THEIVES!!!!! DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!!!!!!

I had the absolutely worst experience at this hotel, no water in my room, was told their working on the issue and i could use the rest room in our other room because i rented 2 rooms ,i did say okay because i it would thought be fixed, i then went my daughters wedding and when i returned i was told it would be Monday before water in my room was fixed, no other availability, my check out was Sunday morn ,i then contacted the GM Vicki and asked for a refund on the room with no water only, she said only $25 off at least i had a bed and tv to watch" WOW" please avoid this one .its hard to believe that this type of service in illinois state capital Sprngfield, i paid $214 for each room for two nights. please avoid this one.I would say read the reviews but most of the previous reviews that sound great are 4 to 6 yrs old. the front desk was great though, its the customer service of the GM. KEEP THE THE REFUND, USE IT FOR UPGRADES

I stayed at this hotel last year for a concert. It was extremely clean, and the staff was very friendly. It was cheaper than the other hotels. Just stayed again on August 15th for a concert at the state fair. Nothing has changed. I am very picky about clean bathrooms and this one passed all my test. Used their shuttle and it was very convenient. Will use again and highly recommend. Very clean, very friendly, and centrally located.

This hotel is an easy walk to the Abraham Lincoln Museum and library. I visited twice in July. Both times, the front staff, morning and night, were super helpful, friendly and efficient. The breakfast and rooms were fine, especially for the price and location. The beds were comfortable. Parking was not ample, but I did manage to get a spot both visits.
