I called Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley knowing that Mike Assalley is the Deputy Country Coroner when my father of 99 years passed peacefully in his sleep at the family home here in Taylorville on Sept 6, 2023. Within the hour, Mike came to our home and pronounced my father's passing and took possession of my father's remains. Mike was instrumental in expediting the cremation and graveside ceremony at my father's reserved site at the National Cemetery just outside of Joliet IL. Timing was important to include all our immediate family members to be present for The United States Navy burial. Mike provided more details and services than I had imagined, while I've never dealt with a relative's passing. My most sincere thanks to Mike for lifting that responsibility, all the while displaying the most sincere and professional courtesies! I encourage all, at their time of need to rely in total confidence of Shafer-Perfetti & Assalley .

The folks at Shafer-Assalley helped us through every step of our mother’s funeral services. Their patient and caring guidance was invaluable in this difficult time. They made sure our special requests were fulfilled and the service was beautiful. This was all especially important since her four children live in Texas, Virginia and Arizona and everything was managed remotely.

I feel our family received outstanding care and compassion from Assalley’s funeral home. Mike has a special way of listening to family talk about their loved one and making a very nice obituary for loved one. Also love the special box they provide for your loved one’s ashes . Mike and his staff were amazingly helpful during a very difficult time. I lost both of my parents about three weeks apart. Their church didn't have a pastor at the time of the service. I explained that I wanted the service to be a celebration of my parents' lives and not a sad occasion. My parents lived to be 80- and 82-years-old, were married for 63 years, and both had health issues that were robbing them of their quality of life. After listening to what I wanted, Mike knew exactly who was needed for the services. He was right. The reverend he secured was absolutely perfect!Due to their deaths being so close together, I wasn't sure how to word the obituary. I emailed Mike all the information, and he wrote an outstanding obituary. Several of my family members tried to complement me on the obituary, but I had to give credit to Mike.I live in another state, but everything was easily handled via email after an initial phone call. Mike and his staff created a lovely sideshow of the pictures I emailed. They even kept them in the order I requested. After the funeral, family members got together. Everyone commented on the sideshow, the reverend, and that the tone of the memorial as being a tasteful celebration of their lives.Mike and his staff were very helpful and respectful from the initial contact to after the funeral. They reached out several days afterward to check on how I was doing and offering help if I needed anything. That was impressive because they had done their job and been paid. That contact truly showed how much they care about their clients.Thank you to Mike and all of your staff for putting together the perfect memorial for my parents, helping me through each step, and your patience throughout. I hope I never need your services again, but if a need arises, I'll definitely contact you.

Expectations were exceeded. They handled all the arrangements for us for which we were so grateful. A loved ones passing is so stressful but Assalley removed that stress for us. The service we had at that chapel was beautiful and tastefully done. Exceptional service. We appreciated their reaching out to us afterwards to see if we were doing okay and if they could be of further assistance. Wow! Don’t see customer service like that these days. Well done Assalley team!
