“This is a company that makes grips for pistols. As with all of my reviews, this review is written for the benefit of consumers, not the benefit of the company. If you read my own reviews, you will observe that there are plenty of one-star reviews. This company makes grips for pistols. They get five stars because they make the best grips in the world and not by a margin but in large measure. The wood they source is of top quality. I recently bought some premium target grips from them in Olive Wood. They were stunning and beautiful when they arrived, but for MY PURPOSES, I wanted them a shade darker. I removed the factory clear and restained them using what little Laurel Mountain Forge I had left and they are the most beautiful grips I have ever seen. This next part is important. Altamont uses a pin and rod system in the grips. Sometimes, the company will completely ignore the way the grips normally attach because they have developed a better way. With this system, a two-part grip will have no seam and will look like a solid piece of wood. The engraving is impossible to describe without seeing the grip, but it was done by a master engraver who has apparently spent a lifetime doing that work. My only complaint, and remember, I am giving this company five stars, but they make grips for relatively few pistols and their choices are enigmatic. Every pistol I own for which they make an Altamont grip is wearing one. Having said that, I buy a lot of grips from Turkey and some hand-painted Japanese maple grips, but I buy these because Altamont does not make a grip for that pistol. I still give this company five stars, and I understand that one cannot make a grip for every pistol in the world. When I say their choices or decisions are enigmatic, for example Walther pistols. I collect them, even though, I don't think they are the best, but the grips are often interchangeable, so for example the same grip fits the new Walther PDP Compact, the Walther Q4, the Walther Q5, all of the Meister Manufacture pistols. That's one grip and would fit a lot of guns. Moreover, Altamont would make a better grip for the gun than Walther does, and they charge $200 for that one. Again, I collect Walther pistols, but the CZ Shadow 2 is probably the best pistol in the world -- well, or the CZ Custom AO1, but Altamont doesn't make grips to fit these pistols. The bottom line is that if you own a pistol for which Altamont makes a grip, there is no better grip in the world, so that alone deserves a five-star rating.”
