I brought my dog in for an appointment today and am disappointed by the obvious lack of care/concern the hospital has towards their clients, patients, and staff. I slipped and fell twice while carrying my sick dog on the unsalted sidewalks of your facility. I understand that the weather can't be changed; however, these conditions aren't unexpected and I'm shocked you allow your clients and patients to navigate these treacherous sidewalks with zero support (no lighting, no salted pathways/walkways anywhere at all). This is unacceptable. If you can't be trusted to reliably salt a known icy sidewalk, then what trust should you be given to manage the life of my pet?

The word colic haunts pretty much every horse owner especially when you learn surgery is the only option other than putting your horse down. The team at U of I Large Animal Clinic saved my 18 year old paint horse’s life. The surgeon Dr. Sara Gray, the residents, the staff and the students were absolutely amazing. My horse is a huge part of my life and my family and I couldn’t imagine life without him. Thanks to the wonderful people here, I don’t have to and I couldn’t be more grateful. I highly recommend this facility.

Took my cat in for a huge cut on her right side took them 12 hours to even give her stitches extremely rude when asked for an update and how much longer it will be. Was told 4-6 hours was well past that. Will not be returning.

I wish I could give negative stars. It's a crying shame that we have no other choice for emergency care in our area. Spent literally hours here and got zero answers. Couple of hundred dollars later still no answers. The ONLY reason I took my poor baby in was because he was on pain and his normal vet couldn't get him in. So hours later and nothing done and we went home. Next day was able to get into his normal vet and within 10 minutes found the problem. He was packed full of poo. Ya that's right a simple exam found the problem and my guys on the mend. The U of I should be ashamed of themselves! I feel like I was robbed of both money and time. I would not recommend this place for any reason and will drive out of county if need emergency care again. Negative 5 stars.

This review is for the oncology department and related admins. The department is staffed by incredibly thoughtful, helpful people who are clearly passionate about animals. They went out of their way to be understanding and caring for both our cat and us at our worst time. I would recommend them to anyone looking for great cancer care for their pet.

Really great experience with one vet, awful with another. It just depends on who you are working with.

I think if your dog is dying or in immediate distress maybe it's good. I took my pup in. She was in pain. I waited 5 ish hours, from 230-730 am. I was told she was given an exam and she was nauseous. I know my dog wasn't dying. But she was in pain. I even asked about her anal glands bc sometimes that's the problem. 190 bucks later...and they didn't even check her glands. Full as could be and was the reason she was in pain. Thank goodness they weren't impacted. I guess if your dog is not stable go here. But if you're having a night time emergency I'd go somewhere else. I'm quite disappointed, but I'm from denver and loved VEG. So maybe I'm wrong. I know that I will commute to St. Louis or Chicago next time.

Excellent care. Attentive staff. Excellent communication. Thankfully it was not really busy, Milo was taken back quickly. Provided his vet with report in a timely manner. Repeat labs drawn next day, prompt service and again excellent communication.

THIS IS NOT MY FIRST REVIEW. We've been coming here since 2008. I wouldn't take my pets anywhere else for serious matters. Obviously if it's and emergency, I'll go somewhere closer.. but there's no other place that has so much love and truly care about the animals & people. *****HIGHLY RECOMMEND*****

I am writing this review as I am so disappointed and unhappy about my recent experience at the teaching hospital. Like many others, I drove down from Chicago area hoping I would get answers and quality, good care for my older dog. The student assigned to me was wonderful. It was the doctor. For starters, she rushed into the exam room and never bothered introducing herself. She quickly explained what tests my dog would need and to return w/him the next day. After the testing when I picked him up I was shown pictures from his CT scan and told what the CT scan revealed. When I asked what caused the obvious redness and swelling I was told I needed to take it up w/my own primary Vet. No discussion with me about what caused his symptoms was offered by this doctor. It was apparent she didn't feel it was her job to discuss what caused the findings of the testing. Because of this redness and swelling my dog has breathing issues. This is distressing to both of us. I was handed a bottle of Prednisone and never asked if I was ok w/that or told anything about side effects. It was wham bang thank you Mam to use the old saying. No exploration of whether he might have an allergy. The next day at my home vets office I went to make an appt for follow up to discuss my dog's test results and see about additional meds and was told there was a two week wait at least for an additional appointment. And that I should discuss and get meds from doctor at U of Illinois. Just the opposite of what U of Illinois doctor told me. What a bunch of B.S. runaround and POOR QUALiTY CARE by both Vets, but especially the University of Illinois Veterinarian. I expected better. She was in a big hurry both meetings and it was like she couldn't be bothered and was doing the absolute least minimum so to then move on to the next patient. I read a lot of negative reviews on here before I went - well, I should have paid attention to them and so should you now.

My dachshund ruptured a disk in his back & needed quick attention. I found the veterinarian hospital online & called. The desk person took all of the information so there would be no waiting when I arrived. We arrived & were immediately placed in an examine room. Everyone was so compassionate & helpful. My dog stayed overnight to be diagnosed by a neurologist & immediately after was taken to surgery. I received a call in the morning & afternoon everyday that Weenie was in their care to report on his progress & see if I had any questions. I am happy to report that after 1 week of his 4-6 week recovery he is doing great & walking on his own. I am very grateful to have found this pet gem.

The Large Animal Clinic is as good as it gets in Equine care (and other species as well). The Doctors and staff are extremely knowledgeable, and caring. The facility has everything needed on site. Large, clean stalls when overnight care is needed. The whole facility is also air conditioned. If you pre-register your animals, you only need to call and let them know you are on the way, and what the issue is, they are then ready for you when you arrive.

I can't say enough good about the hospital. Though the outcome was undesirable, and sometime has passed to allow our hearts to heal, the entire staff was wonderful through a very difficult time. Our Collie Lucy was diagnosed with a rare and terminal form of liver cancer. She was only 7 years old. There was little the hospital could do, but show compassion, efforts to make her final days more comfortable, and provide information and few options. When the difficult time came to put her to rest at our local vet, I wasn't surprised to get a hand signed card of empthy from the hospital mailed to our home, but I was most grateful. They were made aware of the decision and found time after we had left the hospital to provide condolences. Just an absolute top notch group of doctors and support staff. Thank you.

I was actually at the small animal hospital for my dog. It could not have been a better experience!!! The dentist and students were amazing and they took great care of our dog.
