About 16 years ago we adopted a beagle/koon hound puppy you saved, from Kentucky. She was originally named Vasser and we named her Sunshine, Sunny for short. Sunny was my “baby” before my babies, my best friend, my family. I always said our hearts were meant to be together. About a year ago, when Sunny was 15 years old, she died peacefully in our arms. Sunny was one of the best gifts in my life and 4 Paws 4 U 4 Ever gave that to my family and me. The impact that 4 Paws 4 U 4 Ever has on so many lives (dogs and humans) can’t be measured. Through just 1 dog, Sunny, you changed so many lives. Thank you for saving Sunny. By saving Sunny you changed my life, my husbands life and my 3 kids lives. Your dedication to dogs has a domino effect that impacts so many lives: furry and human. Thank you, I am forever grateful to Sheri, John and 4 Paws 4 U 4 Ever.

I lost my best friend Louie not too long ago, for some reason my way of coping was looking at adoptable animals. I came across my Bosco (formally Brucey), I remember filling out the application and crying when it asked about previous pets, said purely all I wanted was a friend again. Sheri was so quick to respond, allowing me time with the dog to see if he was a fit. What she doesn’t know, is it was the first time since losing my Louie where I was genuinely smiling. Bosco brought such a vibrant light to my otherwise very dark time. It was a no brainer, he more so adopted me than the other way around. He is such a good boy, he was clearly very much loved while at the shelter, I’ve only recently had Bosco home but everyday hearing his little paws on the ground makes my heart hurt a little less. Thank you for allowing me to meet my sweet boy, I can’t wait to see what his life becomes. Thank you John and Sheri for giving me a friend.

I found a tiny little pup in the road on Friday in Batavia and after getting the run around from the police station, the vet and another animal shelter; I managed to find this establishment. They took the poor little pup in without hesitation. I am grateful to places like this as I was unable to take the little guy home with me for the time being. I would love an update if possible!

Wanted to add to the 5 Stars. We adopted our furr Baby from Shari 4 years ago. She (formerly Abetta now Stormi) was one of a group of siblings. We were able to meet her and have several siblings puppies interact with us.we had another dog and were able to bring her in and interact with the puppies. The process went well and easy as she explained everything we needed to do and knew the entire history's of the puppies. It was great to see how they allowed some of their puppies access to their home and they had a place on the sofa as family members to relax and watch TV. We have returned to their annual picnic every year which is a great event, and they have continued to be caring and loving rescuers. Our older Dog is 12 now but in the future we look forward to adding to our family again with another visit to them.

We came across this amazing dog outside of pet’s smart in Lombard. They were getting ready to leave and were cleaning up. I was given a card to contact them. I called the following morning. They answered immediately and scheduled a family meeting with the puppy within 2 hours.
Luckily I live in West Chicago not too far away from the location.
This dog sanctuary is in a large house. They are being cared for by kind elderly folks. The dogs all seem to love them.
I am incredibly happy with how the transaction was processed. All shots were up to date, neutering is included, and they gave me a generous amount of Stella and Chewy’s dog food to ease the transition to a different brand.
These folks care very much about the dogs. They are smart to not allow people to adopt that live too far away. They need to keep an eye on their wellbeing.
Our dog was rescued from a kill shelter in Alabama. He has an amazing personality.
****These folks are great. I would adopt from them again
I do not understand the negative reviews.

So unprofessional and rude. We saw them located outside Petco in Hoffman Estates when we were on our way to Old Navy. We decided to stop by to look at them since it was my 2 year old’s first time seeing puppies for the first time and he loves seeing dogs on TV. When we walked up to 2 dogs a lady told us “These two are already adopted” to which I politely replied “Okay thank you”. My husband then gets closer to look at the same dogs to which the same girl repeats in a louder tone “These two are already adopted; these two dogs.” As if we didn’t already hear her the first time? Then, we walk over to another crate in which 2 different smaller dogs are in and my son and I continue to look and interact with the dogs. A guy walks up to us and says “You guys can’t pick those dogs up” even though we were ONLY staring and petting. Had no intentions of picking the dogs up. We reply with “Okay, thank you.” 2 minutes later the same guy hands 2 cops the dogs that we “were not allowed to pick up” so they could pet them and take pictures with them. I’m assuming the owners get to pick and choose who picks up the dogs and who doesn’t. Sounds like discrimination to me. We lost interested in even adopting dogs based on these people’s behavior. Don’t even waste your time.

Called and asked about surrendering dog and they told me “I have no room for dogs”. So then it’s not a “shelter” it’s an adoption agency. Seems to be a trend with all these “shelters” you call them and all of them “have no room”. Thanks for the help ??

walked by pet smart and they had a couple dogs out in front. they were very cute but the people taking care of them did not seem to care at all other than one boy with curly brown hair. the older we’re just walking throughout the store eating some i don’t even know what and no care. I asked about breeds and they didn’t know any for the dog or how old they were. One caught my eye and the whoever she was seemed young just yanked the dog up from the ground in the cages they were in and goes “here” like what? I would have asked if I wanted to see and second that is now a nice way to talk to someone in maybe adopting a dog. As I was holding the dog the older lady and the older guy with her start mentioning how their $400 each but come with this and this and this. The older lady then picks up another BUT closes in the cage to have the dog in a corner then picks him up just by his two front legs and it starts yelping!! I couldnt stand it I looked at her and said you are hurting the dog, and had to walk away. Please someone check on that group of people who is there at the petsmart in hoffman estates they do not seem fit at all for volunteering nor do they seem to care for the pups. it’s breaks my heart

I put in an application for a puppy and when I followed up regarding the application via phone, I was told that the puppy would do best/thrive in a home with children and that they really wanted the puppy to go to a home with children so I was therefore not being considered for either puppy I had applied for. I am very disheartened by the process to try to rescue a dog from a shelter as I really wanted to try to adopt a dog and put in the effort to train the dog prior to having my own children, but I suppose that this is not an option through this rescue organization at this time which is very unfortunate.

Very lazy when it comes to finding their fur babies a furever home. Wouldn’t approve an application because I lived too far (1hr) for her to check up on vaccines and neutering. I had even offered to fax or bring the paperwork to them like I had done with my current puppy for another rescue who was about 2hrs further than 4paws.. disappointed and upset but the search continues! Only adopt from here if you live within 30min apparently.
Edit: makes a lot more sense after seeing all of these one star reviews. Also, to make things clear I offered to do all of the driving and work for her to still turn me down because “I was too far” for her to be able to make sure I was taking care of the puppy. I am home alone, a house I own, 24/7 with a 4yr old Husky Shepard, I've owned since he was 7months, who is the sweetest and most respectful dog after all of the training I gave him but she didn’t want to hear any of that!
Edit 2: I submitted an application (or so I thought) but it never went through which is the reason why I called. When I was on the phone with them, she never asked for me to send in another but instead said they would have to decline because of the distance. Couldn’t even give me a chance to send in another application? Really? And then want to use it as an excuse because of my review? Hope you can find good homes in such a small distance because there will always be more strays to adopt?

We adopted from here about 2.5 years ago and we love our pyranese mix. We went again today to adopt a puppy again, and found all the puppies they have are loved a d ready, unfortunately we did not find the perfect puppy, but we keep trying and looking only with 4 paws. The owners are wonderful people who absolutely love the puppies they are adopting out. I would recommend 4paws before a breeder anyday. If there was more than 5 stars I would give them all.

If you have a job and work outside the home, you are not good enough to adpot a pet from this place. You cannot leave one of their puppies home alone. Your love is not good enough for them.

My Father adopted a dog years ago. He never took care of the dog, my Mom did.My Mom passed 5 years ago. Since then, the dog has not been to the Vets except for surgery for an infection on her gums that he never even noticed. I took care of this and got the money for the surgery. My Father is now 88 yrs old, blind, deaf and has Dementia.I called this place, explained the situation and asked for help. My thought was for them to take the dog back due to neglect and allow me to adopt her and legally take over her care. But the woman said she was afraid of being sued.So the dog will have to stay neglected. This place needs to stop accepting strays, adopt out the dogs that they have and close their doors. The dog is now 12 yrs old and in a worse position then when she was first adopted.I offered a solution to the problem and was refused so the neglect will continue...
