“Dr. Mary Ubatuba is great. The new vet Dr. Brian Johnston is great. The techs and receptionists are kind and efficient and knowledgeable.

I have been here with 2 cats, my sister/brother in law’s very old and very sick cat who they treated extremely well. I saw this first hand when I was cat sitting and he needed to take the cat in. They helped him (and his “brother”) live a long comfortable life even after they got ill - and my SIL said they were gentle and wonderful when it was time to put them down.

When I moved to the Downers Grove area I switched my vet care for my cat to Abbeywood. My cat has some serious chronic conditions and developed a new one more recently. Both Drs. Ubatuba and Johnston were fine with my not wanting to spend a lot of time and money to intensively treat the intestinal cancer we suspected. Instead, he gets care to prevent bladder stones, medicine for his thyroid, and added a steroid for his suspected intestinal cancer - reduced the inflammation, increased his comfort and has given him another happy year so far (they did not force me into expensive tests, surgery or chemo since he’s an old cat). They would have done the tests if I had wanted to know definitively what was causing my cat’s misery - and treated if we wanted to do that.

Abbeywood’s team is really attuned to what you need and as far as I can tell, technically great (getting blood and urine samples from my cat has never been easy).

“I have been taking my pets to VCA West Suburban for a number of years and have always been very satisfied with the service, the vets, and all their employees. This past Friday, however, was my first visit with Dr. Kayson with my Great Dane, Ivy. I just want to say thank you to Dr. Kayson for his caring, compassion, thoroughness, and sensitivity, in addition to how gentle and caring he was with Ivy. Sadly, in spite of efforts to diagnose the cause of Ivy's seizure, we lost her very suddenly the next day. Dr. Kayson called me this morning to express his deepest condolences and to discuss what may have happened. I can't recommend VCA West Suburban enough, but especially Dr. Kayson.”

“We love Dr. Mullen and the care she provides for my fur babies (Luigi and Eve Makayla). I followed her from her previous office to this office because there isn't anything that she wouldn't do for my pets. She takes the time to better understand my pets' personalities, habits, and any illnesses they may have. I would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone seeking vet care for their fur babies. 5 This part of the review is directed toward the facility, not the care we received from Dr. Mullen. The prices are a bit steep. Just to see a "healthy" pet is $79 and if your pet is "sick" it's $89. The Wellness Plans also went up in price as my Pom used to have the highest package (there are 3) and I paid around $91/mo. and now it's $113. If I got the same package for my senior kitty it would be $142/mo.! My Pom has always had bad teeth and I was quoted $2100-$2700 for a dental with extractions. Having the highest Wellness Plan doesn't provide much relief either as it only covers around $700 of the total bill.”
