Awesome! It was great. Service was fast, drinks were like Florida. Definitely going to be back there for summer!

Had an okay time the last visit to this lakeside bar and grill. It's got to be the most popular place to go in Winthrop Harbor because it's busy, as far as when it's summer when everyone comes out here. The Tropics has the typical beach goer type of theme. Even though it's not next to a beach, it is located next to a lake. You can even pull your boat up and get something. Basically there's a lot of lakeside bars like it. It's best known for the drinks and live music. This of course gets pretty crowded in summer. Always some event going on. This is popular for banquets and whatever. Last time we got drinks and food. They were pretty busy so we didn't order a lot. Got the Blue Lagoon cocktail. It's about $8 and made with Blue Curacao, lemonade, and Tito's. As far as the food goes, it's mostly greasy fried stuff so we tried our best. We got the Chips And Salsa. It's about $5 for a pretty good amount. The rest of the menu is fishy and meaty. Great views of the lake. It's got a lot going on. There's live music and whatever.

Perfect stop over if you're a boat owner and on your way out or into Chicago. Cheese curds are to die for.

I wanted a relaxing lunch, looking out at the boats and the water. It would’ve been more relaxing, if a situation had been handled better with an elderly patron and his dog. Reason why four stars. My chicken tenders were the best I think I have ever had.I loved the batter on them. The coleslaw was good also, so was my margarita !!Unfortunately, just about everything has breading and my friend is allergic to gluten, so he just had the cold shrimp.

Nice place situated right on the lake next to the marina. Decent parking and seemed ADA compliant. The steak was seasoned very well and was great. The sides really made the overall meal disappointing. Choice of potato was chips or fries…not what I’d expect with a $30 steak. Veggies were from a frozen bag of mixed veggies, which was really disappointing. With a produce stand just a couple miles away, why not offer local fresh produce options? And offer proper potato options such as baked or mashed? Overall it was a nice place, but I won’t come back for steak.Parking: About 25 spots including 3-4 handicap spots

Awesome place to host our 45th class reunion. The entire team was fabulous. Our bartender was over the top with attentiveness and detail. Thanks for a wonderful night.

Was looking for a relaxing lunch, watching the boats on the water. Instead, there was an issue with an elderly patron and his dog that was not handled very well, and it went on and on. Reason for only 4 stars. Thankfully, they have the best batter on a chicken tender that I have ever had . they were so good, and I had coleslaw with them, and a very good margarita. Almost everything is breaded which wasn’t good for my friend who has a gluten allergy so he had to just have the cold shrimp and cocktail sauce.

Revisited after a few years, and it was great. Great food, fantastic service, and even met the owner. I was glad to see the menu had evolved since the last time. Highly recommend.

Me and my dad were seated. However, after 10 minutes or so of waiting, nobody served us and the place wasn’t even that busy.I highly advise not going if you have to wait a long time to be served.

The service at the Tropics is very disappointing. I spent $50 on take out pizzas and wasn't allowed to sit on the nearly empty veranda and have a beer. I was told that the area was reserved for eat in only. I asked if they thought they'd fill the 40 open seats in the 20 minutes it would take to prepare the pizzas and again was given the party line. The manager was incredibly rude, chastised me that he was running a business and the servers needed their tips. I told him I would absolutely tip the waitresses, but he stuck to the party line... rules for the sake of rules. It's to bad, I always enjoyed sitting out there watching the boats come in and regularly spent $100 or more at every visit over the past 5 years. Where has customer service and civility gone? Disappointed on the Lake
