Walked into the store with my daughter, who is a very young toddler and the redhead working the front desk is playing on her phone (they were empty and as someone who’s worked in customer service fields that didn’t bother me at all), says “is there anything you came in for in particular?” which sounds like a typical question except for she said it in the most irritated and bored voice I’ve ever heard. I say no and that my daughter just wants to look, again unbothered because I don’t normally care about the corporate forced questions if I’m not the one to engaging for help. She doesn’t say anything and stays playing on her phone. My daughter sees a Bluey stuffy, which I would have purchased for her Easter basket had the following events not happened, even though I had not initially planned on buying anything. As I’m watching her explore, she runs to the stuffing machine and pulls on some part of it. I IMMEDIATELY am very clearly reprimanding her verbally and reaching to pull her off of it (I would never let my child just destroy things, even though nothing she was doing was going to destroy it, she’s literally ONE) granted with my hands full, and all I hear is “SHE CANT TOUCH THAT SHE CANT TOUCH THAT” as this woman stands up for the first time since we’ve entered the store to yell at us as if I’m not pulling my child off of this machine. She continues to make a whole scene about it, even after I pick my daughter up and is VERY CLEARLY annoyed, rolling her eyes and exasperated and rude. I don’t believe that working at a Build a Bear is appropriate if you aren’t someone who enjoys being around children, but this individual obviously wasn’t thrilled about us being in the store as soon as we walked in. I was planning on buying a Bluey for my daughter after seeing it but decided against it after that interaction. She didn’t say a single word to us as we walked out. It would be an assumption to think that people working in a store geared towards children would have a bit more of an upbeat personality and wouldn’t act obnoxiously rude to a literal one year old, but I guess you know what they say about assuming! We’ll make the drive to Indy to get a stuffed animal from there before returning. Ruined our mommy and daughter bonding day we had planned for our trip to Bloomington.

Every time I go in, everyone is so nice and friendly and seems so genuinely happy to be there. I got a Stitch (Yak-Yak) today, super excited, and the lady working (wish I got her name) matches my energy the entire time!
