I was surprised today when I came in to the store. Normally when I come in someone asks if I need help. Today, most (if not all) of the employees were sitting at the Helpful Hub talking. When I asked a young employee where the staples for a staple gun were, she just pointed in the general direction. When I arrived at the area she pointed, I was 2 aisles off. During my search, I watched an elderly customer climbing a step ladder to reach air filters. That is a serious law suit waiting to happen. This store is usually very helpful and customer oriented, but I guess today was the exception.

Used to be a good place to go, went in with a co2 tank asked if they fill up co2
The guy in the back was short with me, he said I don't know ask the workers up up front. So when I got back up there 2 of the workers were gossiping with someone about there ex-boyfriend and when I asked about the tank they said no we don't do that in some condescending manner, then I asked if they knew where the air tool oil was and I guess they were just to deep in thought of their personal chat, she then pretended that I said air tall oil then proceeded in asking me what's air tall oil???? Got a bunch of rude kids working there that don't wanna do anything .... moral of the story.//////////// as of 8/21/2025 the service has improved tremendously!!!!

My wife and I visited the new store recently to look around and were impressed. The store is set up and merchandised to Ace’s high standards. Everything was neat and mostly well stocked as is usual with new store resets. A few empty hooks and shelves here and there but they are still moving from across the street. The bolt and screw department was impressive though I wonder why they still have Midwest Fastener products versus the usual Ace recommended Hillman Fastener products. I hadn’t seen the Stihl store within a store setup before, it looked great. The employees were busy putting stock out as we walked around.
This store or the Sycamore location are my go-to Ace stores as the Rockville store mere minutes from my home can’t compare to these two.

I’ve always had good experiences at Ace Hardware until today. I asked a simple question about a piece of trim—whether they had any or if they just hadn’t moved them over yet—and the employee “Paul” completely ignored me. I asked again, and instead of helping, he snapped, “Does it look like we have any?” Then immediately rang up my other items without another word.
It was disappointing, especially since I’ve always appreciated the helpful service here in the past. I get that people have off days, but a little courtesy goes a long way. Hoping this was just a one-off experience and not the new norm.
