Bridgeton Mill is the oldest continually operating mill in the Midwest, family-owned since 1823, though not by the same family. Located in a quiet town in Parke County, Indiana, it features the fourth building from 1870 that still makes fresh stone-ground flour, cornmeal, grits, and polenta. Visitors can enjoy a variety of products including pancake mix, cornbread mix, fish batter, and more, all made from flour ground on-site. The mill also has a snack shop, hand-dipped ice cream, and a covered bridge over a waterfall, offering picturesque views and a peaceful setting. It is a popular spot during the covered bridge festival, attracting visitors for its food, scenery, and great photo opportunities. Guests have the chance to talk with the staff, who share stories and create artwork for the mill’s clothing line. The experience is enhanced by the aroma of roasted nuts, popcorn, and burning wood, especially during seasonal festivals. Visitors praise the excellent food, especially the bread made from the mill’s own flour, which is praised for its rich wheat flavor and quality, making simple meals like grilled cheese and burgers exceptional. The mill operates from April 1st until early December and remains a magical step back in time, offering both historical significance and delicious, authentic products.
Always love going to see the Mill when I go back home
