Do not open an account here. Right after opening my account, they put a block on it so that money could not come in or out, causing a major mess with my paycheck. I did not know about the block until I called and sat on hold for nearly an hour. This is an unprofessional establishment that does not deserve your business.

My name is Alexus Jenkins and I have several complaints about my experience with WinTrust Bank. I also have forwarded this over to the BBB. I recently opened up an account a few days ago and was denied. However, this system offered a Checking account with Old Plank Trail Bank. After, I was approved for the account, I took a screen shot of my account number and routing number. I then called customer service and spoke with a woman name Joe who assisted me with setting up online banking. I also told Joe that, I get paid weekly and wanted to set up direct deposit. Joe told me it was ok to setup my deposit. Now, The bank that I currently bank with, I usually get paid Wednesday nights around 10:00pm. I noticed my money was not in my account Wednesday, and called customer care yesterday. I was told the account was never open/closed. I also was told Old Plank checked with Check System and seen I had owed $111.00 to a previous bank about 6 years ago. However, I though banks runs that before giving an individual a checking and routing number. I spoke with Priscilla yesterday and she was very rude to me and condescending. The woman even went as far as asking me why would I try to setup direct deposit on a closed account. I responded the real question is why didn’t I receive a phone call or something via email or mail, stating the account was closed?? Had I not called in Thursday inquiring about my weekly direct deposit, I would have never known. Priscilla then turned around and asked why would I try to set up a payment on a account with a 0.00 balance. I told her because my weekly deposit usually hit on Wednesday evenings. That is why I set the payment to be withdrawn Thursday. Priscilla proceeded To ask who do I bank with and why was I leaving. I told her , I will be moving soon, and the state I am moving to? Don’t have First Merchant Bank. The woman was flat out disrespectful and rude.

Called in at 10 am to see if I can come in the afternoon to set up a new account. I was advised that there lobby is open and have multiple employees helping and any wait would be short. Arrived at 2:30pm and was stopped at the door and asked to give them my name and phone number. After giving them my information I was told they will call me when they have availability.After waiting 45 in parking lot and not knowing how much longer I left to pick up kids from school.After a little over an hour they finally contact me. Since I was busy I advised them that I would call them back when I have the availability.There staff needs to get on the same page.

I used to really enjoy this bank. I’ve preferred to use smaller banks because of the service level and they don’t seem to hound you with phone calls or try and break your back with fees. That being said, I don’t know what happened here but I don’t get the same level of service anymore. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere!
