Reliable internet, but only have a one-gig option for fiber at 74.99 is just annoying. I have no need for those speeds, even as a gamer, and am forced to pay that ridiculous price

Not only did they cut off our internet, but our land line as well..."because they are moving to fiber"....admitted that they could turn it all back on IF we signed a 12 month contract that they were emailing to me, but wouldn't turn it back on before then. Holding us hostage to their terms! Then never sent the contract for me to read! None of the CS people would help me! Left us without internet or phone just to get us to sign a contract! Went with EarthLink, they were helpful and nice.

Blackmail is apparently legal if you have a monopoly on internet in a rural area! So disappointed in the business ethics of Smithville, but sadly we really don't have a choice because my husband needs internet to work from home.

We have had internet and phone for many years but I’m not sure what you are doing our internet goes out every couple of hours all day and early evening no it also happens at my work . I myself pay a lot for this service you need to fix the issue for all of us that have made your company what it is today , remember that small little office you had when your family started this company.

Always great customer service, and the best Internet if you can get it.

100 Mbps slower than their direct competitors and when you try to cancel their service they will "accidentally" hang up on you leading you to the run around.Update: after you set up termination they will throttle your internet speeds down to 2 (two) whole Mbps. I advise you to seek a more professional and reliable ISP whether or not you pay for Smithville's services.

While installing a new internet line, Smithville cut the power line going to our shop. Called customer service and spoke with D. House and was informed it was my fault and responsibility to fix the line even though Smithville is the one who called 811. I was not on property that day so hard to understand their reasoning.

Smithville has been one of the best ISP's I've had for a remote rural area. I've had two DSL lines for over a year without any issues, speeds were around 40Mbps each. Recently, they just cut me over to fiber and it's been rock solid with speeds around 850 Mbps. So far so good! I haven't had any issues with customer service either when I've had to call them to help troubleshoot and fix an issue. Keep up the great work!

Service is great as long as you have Fiber. If you are one of the poor people on DSL it’s a very different experience. DSL you may get speeds of 10 mbps download and 0.3 Mbps upload which makes it nearly impossible to do anything. That’s also assuming the service is on and working. Very normal to have outages for a week or more and customer support to tell you you’re too far down on the priority list. Also calling customer service is a horrible experience and 90% of the time you will not get a call back if you choose that option. On DSL please expect service to slow considerably during 5-9pm and anytime the city mows the roadside plan to not have internet for a week (I’m sure that’s frustrating for smithville). In a year of service, I called customer support in the hundreds of times and know almost everyone on that team by name now. Each individual person who works there is nice however I feel in most cases unable to help due to company policies or priorities. My recommendation to the thousands of people on DSL would be to switch to Starlink (more expensive but 20x faster speeds) for the next 10 years or so until fiber is built out to all rural areas. Again, if you have fiber this is a completely different experience and I would use Smithville.

Honestly the provider just is seriously poor for our area, we pay for the highest plan that we can get from them and get less than a fifth of that speed, and sometimes it's even slower than that.If you live in a rural area, I'd try to consider other providers if you can, it's sad that we're in 2023 where working from home is becoming extremely common and we have internet providers with speeds like this.EDIT: Editing this review to give my two piece of the response I was given by them. No, you aren't working to bring fiber to all of your rural customers, at all, because we were promised by your company around 2014 that we would have fiber and it's been almost 10 years since that, that's a completely false narrative. Our speeds have been ludicrously terrible for that long and your company still hasn't even bothered to try and get fiber in our area.

Smithville Telephone and internet services are terrible. Customer service is even worse than terrible. They are argumentative and just down right rude. In my experience, your employees are a reflection of their leadership so Darby McCarty and Paul should be ashamed. My neighbors and I are always calling with outages and always get some lip service every time we call... Serenity and Gauge are probably the worst. I cant even list all the problems I/we have had...slow internet, constant outages, terrible customer service and tech support, no compensation for outages...they say your internet or phone has to be out for 72 hours before they can discount the bill...how convenient since it is usually out for hours several days throughout the month. Then they think they can come on your property ...block your driveway ...and tear up your landscape anytime they want with out even advising the owner....Had to put a stop to that. They work on the cables and don"t even let people know there may be outages....Take a lesson from REMC and give people some advance notice. An over all terrible company run by some typical over privileged Indiana University/Bloomington people that don"t care about the regular folks. All the homeless people around here and they are donating hundreds of thousands to IU sports. Shame on you Smithville leaders...get your priorities straight and realize people are your business. I would not have even given them one star but that is the minimum to be able to post!!!

We have been without phone or internet since yesterday morning. This is an issue because of remote employment needing internet access to work. We called in to report this yesterday and were told someone would be out to fix the issue today. We called again today to check the status of the repair technician and are now told it will be tomorrow before anyone will be out. We have 2 neighbors who have also reported this outage so it is not just us. Their website says they have great customer service. I have not found this to be true during this issue or other issues we have had in the past. If I had a choice of another utility I would pass on Smithville.

I discovered our lake cabin's line was down last Tuesday evening. Called 24 hr customer service. The next morning the tech was here to reattach my line. I've had only positive experiences with the customer service. Had service since 2017.

I was with Comcast for 5 years & with ATT for 15 but was never happy with their Internet service because they lied about their Internet speed,Smithville provided what they promised, love it and I think every home in Indiana should be equipped with Smithville Fiber Optic Service.
