It pains me to even write this because I grew up here and remember walking through this store a lot as a kid. This location has went so far downhill over the past few years. It’s totally worn down and dirty, everyone working seems miserable, and they haven’t updated or remodeled a thing in god knows how long. All this is one thing, but the main reason I write this review is because of the door attendants. Anytime I walk out of this store by myself it’s fine but the second I have my baby with me she stops to see my receipt. For whatever reason the self checkout gives you an option for “no receipt”. I accidentally clicked that, immediately realized that was a bad move (especially at this location), hoped for the best and attempted to leave. Of course, she asks to see my receipt so I attempt to tell her I clicked “no receipt”. She continued to treat me as if I was stealing even after I took the time to show her my online banking statement that had a pending charge for Walmart. Another lady came over and was of no assistance whatsoever. At this point we’re at a stand still. I’m just trying to get to my car and go home, I did nothing wrong. I know this so I explain that there’s obviously nothing I can do since my bank statement doesn’t mean anything and I clicked no receipt. I must be the only person whose ever clicked that button? There’s clearly nothing I can do so I leave and the door attendant screams “if you can’t afford groceries don’t come to the store!” The whole situation felt basically like harassment. Why have an option for no receipt to begin with if your policy is to have a person check the receipt at the door? The better question is why should I put up with any of that as a customer? I walk out of Meijer and the door lady stops me to talk my ear off about how cute my baby is, I walk out of Walmart and they treat me like a criminal whose stealing from them in front of my child. In an Amazon age with two clicks and overnight shipping is this really going to keep people coming back to your store? This location makes late stage Kmart feel like a utopia. This location used to be good, but that memory is so far buried in the past that I’m willing to move on. It’s been an eventful journey, Apple Glen Walmart. What good times we had in the 90’s and 2000’s. But unfortunately, I must move on. Here’s to the Meijer and Kroger journey’s ahead 🥂

I go here when it's convenient but definitely not my first choice. It's trashy and dirty. Get your stuff get out. Dont expect to see friendliness. It's worse than Coldwater and Southtown walmarts.

My husband and I do our food shopping at a variety of grocery stores in the SW area. We go to Trader Joes, Walmart, Meijer, and Kroger stores to complete our shopping list needs. We absolutely hate going to this Walmart. There is another Walmart in Columbia City that is far better than this store but we don't tend to go there in the winter bc it's a 20 minute drive involving Route 30. It's far more clean and the quality of clothes is better. You don't feel like you may be mugged in the parking lot or that your car may be broken into or dented by the people who shop there.
There was a self check out register manager named Roxanna and another Christian blonde lady who worked overseeing the self check out areas that made shopping at this store bearable. They were both kind, considerate, cheerful, and offered exceptional customer service; even opening those miserable grey bags for you so you could bag your groceries without losing your temper. I found out today that Roxanna left a month ago. For anyone who thinks older employees have nothing to contribute to a store, think again. Roxanna often cheered me up with pleasant conversation, something I only find at Trader Joes, bc their employees are trained to engage in conversation with the customer to give them that personal, small store atmosphere.
Unfortunately the short lady we have encountered over Christmas shopping there is the new cashier manager. She screams commands at the cashiers from the clothes section behind them and has become the new tough lady commando there. She rudely told my husband and I that we needed to get in another checkout line while Christmas shopping last week bc we were blocking the aisles. We were the only people she screamed at to move. The store wasn't that crowded, it was 9 pm, and we had changed lines 3 times trying to get a cashier that moved fast enough to get through the customer line and picked cashiers that we didn't recognize bc many of the cashiers have nasty unfriendly attitudes bc they hate working there and they seem to resent us spending $175 or more twice a week when we come in. Will the head of the whole store manager or regional manager please look into the new blonde haired very short lady's power trip that is causing customers to never want to shop here again and employees to want to work elsewhere? She's rude in the Customer Service desk with returns as well. Can't wait for spring to come so we can drive to the Columbia City Walmart. Roxanna we wish you the best!
