To the person who is complained about the chip paint and the gym being filthy they have longed fixed all those paint issues. I go to the YMCA every day not only are the staff, very professional and nice. The gym is clean. The gym equipment is new. The ladies locker room is very clean. Well kept.

The staff in the weight lifting room do not know their own rules. Two staff members say one thing and the other staff member says the opposite. Retraining.

Yo don’t come here lmao, “director” and an employee were extremely disrespectful and were having a whole power trip about “open toe” shoes when wearing crocs in the gym, was told to leave after driving 30 minutes just to get there because others Ys in the area were closed. L?

Used to be good. Overcrowded now - parking lot full, so you park in mud; and they have no problem kicking you off machines for classes. Glad I left.

Young staff members show no respect to elders. Talk to you as if you are a child furthermore the elder staff members back this nonsense. Don't be a certain color from a certain area you will get treated with no respect. Nice place but a terrible staff. Across-the-board DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

I don't know why I keep signing up and hoping things will be different. I am terribly disappointed to try and access a swimming pool to help my health only to be told I cannot swim because 3 people in the shallow end are claiming half the pool (deep end and all) as a class. And there is noone to talk to about the problem. Even the website has no one to contact unless you call and then you get told 'its just how it is'

My husband I recently joined this YMCA. The staff has been kind noissues there at all. My issue is the tremendous distractions in the exercise area. Yesterday 3/21 was especially bothersome. There were children, young children unattended playing on treadmills and one of them actually flew off of it because they were playing. There was another guy there grunting and screaming as he literally threw one of the weighted bags back and forth. I found it so distractful I couldn't get into my workout like I needed to. Actually told my husband I may have to leave and go back to Planet Fitness. I usually get there around 4. This is the only time I can come due to my work schedule. I guess my question is shouldn't we all be able to enjoy our time there? Probably not a good fit for me.

The gym and some of the exercise classes are great. Do not sign the kids up for classes at this location though as we have had numerous gymnastic classes start late or canceled and not notified until the class was suppose to be starting. We also had classes that our kids were suppose to start for the month and not get canceled until the day of first class which made our children miss the entire month if classes as it was to late to get them involved in another location. The directors will not give you their phone number to discuss the issues, and the employees in the front are told not to let them give you their number. It's incredibly unfortunate as this Ymca was a staple for my childhood. I would suggest doing classes at the other locations.

I was told I l couldn't work out without having on gym shoes (I had on Crocs). I have NEVER heard this ever as I have worked out at multiple YMCA's. The policy states you must have on closed toes shoes which I did. My workout did not consist of any equipment it actually required me to remove my shoes which is why I opted out of wearing gym shoes for the day. My workout consisted of Yoga poses and Pilate moves which is best without shoes. This YMCA need better workers who understand the policy. I was upset so I chose to leave rather than get into a debate. Do not recommend the Hammond Location prefer the Schererville location as it is nicer and staff is way nicer and allows you to be in whatever closed toe shoes you desire as they would never assume what your workout consist of.

Honestly the staff at the ymca are so kind and helpful I love going there. All the staff are nice but Chris is my favorite, because he has failed to make me laugh when i was feeling down and he's overall nice to me and others.

Ok so I like this gym. Staff is very friendly and informative. Love they gym and workout equipment. Layout is great.Plenty different machines and weights for everyone. Plenty of basketball hoops for people to shoot around.Only downfalls are the washrooms/ locker rooms and showers. Very outdated and not very clean. Also the parking lot lighting at night is horrible. They have UV lights to help the cameras so they can see you on camera better at night. "For your safety " but it makes it hard for you to see at night and protect yourself if someone's coming at you. Also parking lot backed up to a wide open bike route, not closed in. Doesn't feel safe.

Very good gym. They have upgrade majority of the facility; except for the locker rooms, they are still outdated. Regardless, the lockers don't bother me since I spend maybe 5 minutes max getting changed.I mainly go for the weightlifting machines. There are plenty of options to hit just about any muscle group. I've been having to adjust my schedule because Monday-Thursday from around 4PM to 7PM it gets unbelievably busy. To the point where it feels like you're stuck at your machine because there are no other options open to continue your workout. It's full of plenty of different age groups, but it does tend to get filled with younger people that like to huddle up in areas and make machines inaccessible for periods of time.If you're planning on signing up for the gym, consider that it may become unusable from 4PM to 7PM, Monday through Thursday, and you might have to adjust your schedule to accommodate any workout plans. They do have some ugly what-seem-to-be Infrared Lights in the parking lot that give off purple hue. Something I wish they would change.Regardless, if this facility is close to you, I would definitely recommend checking it out and signing up.

My husband and I have frequented this location for years. Tonight as we visited with our children we were harassed, spoken to like trash, treated unfairly and followed into the gym by Raphael. If this is the type of person who you all have managing your facility then we will consider canceling our membership! This man called the police on us because we refused to speak to him after following rules that were obviously not imposed on other patrons of this facility. Not only was this situation embarrassing, but it also scared my children to watch the police walk up to their father and ask our family to leave. I am disgusted with how we were treated tonight and expect better treatment as members of a facility that is supposed to be for families.
